Bitcoin or at least web 3 was supposed to get us rid of this parasitic software companys, i wonder its 2023 and we still don't have a decentralized doordash or decentralized uber/lift that replaces these companys. Can someone tell me why i am still stuck with these companys.
Not everything benefits from decentralization. Airbnb, Uber, etc don't provide a marketplace, they provide reputation management and someone to complain to, if needed. I want my money system to be permissionless. I don't want that when I'm renting out my home to a stranger. I want a trusted party to KYC the shit out of anyone I bring onto my home. And when I'm playing the part of the consumer, I want the same thing, plus a trusted party to escrow the payment. Not every transaction should be irreversible.

I'd argue that they do provide a marketplace, but the problem that they solved was reputation management. Currently we're using "trusted" third parties to provide that verification and escrow, but I wonder if the problem can be solved in a more decentralized manner as well.

I think that what we see with Nostr is a loose framework that could implement a purely digital identity with landlords and their properties, and clients, without requiring further information than the identity. You could rent with an anonymous identity then, and the more landlords you make happy the less risky it looks to the others. The veracity of the landlord's identity and ownership or right of enjoyment of the property has to be there for the landlord too.
The only hard problem in it, as I see it, is how to guarantee a consistent and correct copy of all of these documents is available. Part of that has to be in charging for access to it. This would stand in place of the IT/accounting systems in these short term rental services, keeping records that everyone can see. And yes, they don't have to leak any private information, except via your use of your digital identity elsewhere, and then a search can zip them all together.
So obviously this all brings the necessity for people to understand having multiple identities for different purposes, so that the sex shop and christian bookstore don't find out about you visiting the other.

Reputation and a place to complain to is a minor problem. In Russia and Ukraine it is standard to get a private taxi by simply holding out a hand. No reputation system at all and it works well.

While everyone whines about why it can't be done in theory, it will soon simply be done in practice!

This Nostr app exists, but it's missing critical features: https://github.com/ArcadeCity/bullrun
Can someone tell me why i am still stuck with these companys.
There are very few programmers who are capable of making decentralized versions of Uber/Lyft/DoorDash. All of them are currently focused on building social media apps on Nostr. It is a genuine tragedy that their talents are being wasted making social media apps -- and that Nostr is being wasted on social media.
I wrote an essay relevant to this topic: #206646

The funny thing is it is likely the commerce apps that are needed first! People forget that before social media, there was business on the internet!

I don't know how to put this, but you have history backwards. The US government explicitly banned commerce on the early internet (i.e. the '70s and '80s). In 1980, the first social media network was created: Usenet (see my essay for more details on the history of Usenet). Meaningful commerce didn't occur on the internet until the 90's when the general public got access to the internet.
In other words, because of state intervention, social media came before commerce on the internet.

I mean the social media apps that really got traction that came after the dotcom boom.

I made a simple webpage that fetches Nostr posts with the hashtag #NostrClassifieds: https://nostr.bitejo.com Few people are using it but if it would become popular, it would be possible to sort by location, category, etc. No custom post type or custom relay because it's just a simple way to advertise your products/services and doesn't handle orders, payments or reviews.
LNBits NostrMarket https://github.com/lnbits/nostrmarket is more complex and has more features. Maybe a taxi app could be added there. But in many cases the technical parts are easy, and the true difficulty is finding users...

Classsified don't matter much, tbh, it's the real time service networks: delivery, transportation, services/gigs i.e. fungible goods/services, which general objects being sold are not.

I too am sick of the parasites.

I think Nostr may fix this by enabling better reputation mechanisms via transferable relational contracts. I have commented on Nostr about two sided marketplaces in general being displaced by free market, competitive alternatives on Nostr.

parasitic software companys
I'm very much in favor of decentralization but calling these companies parasites sounds very socialist or at least anti free market. Obviously the companies are providing a valuable function or else we would already have decentralized alternatives. The parasite are the state regulaters. I welcome the replacement of Uber but they provide a market function at least for now.

Should see it on nostr within the next year

How does decentralized customer support work?
reply
Maybe with freelancers paid in sats, chosen based on reputation by the user. But they have to be impartial and not favor either the user / guest or the driver / host. So maybe something similar to how D. Friedman suggests private courts would work in an anarchist society.

I ask myself the same question, I believe there's an opportunity there! You can check airbtc.online they seem to be on a good path.

Patience you must have, my young Padawan. Have patience and all will be revealed.
But more seriously: projects like these probably already exist. I think I saw a bitcoin Uber site once. But they just haven't caught on, or the functionality isn't quite there. Lightning Network is also not really ready in terms of ease of use and reliability, imo.

What's missing? Phoenix or Wallet of Satoshi are both insanely easy to use and reliable.

Last time I tried was about a year ago and got discouraged by the experience. Kept trying to pay to a merchant using OpenNode from my Breez Wallet but the transaction kept failing. No route or something like that.
So I didn't try to do anything with my wallet for a while. Next time I tried to do something, it was months later and I found out that Breez had closed my channel due to inactivity. Thankfully, my funds were still safe but I had to move them back on-chain, including paying miner fees. It felt bad because I had to pay something like 4,000 sats to set up my Breez wallet and now I'll have to pay it again if I want to set up a new channel. It also felt shitty because there wasn't any notification about closure due to inactivity. It is in the docs, but they don't tell you anywhere upfront when setting up.
Granted, this was about a year ago, so maybe things are better now? Between then and now I haven't used LN at all except to log in to SN
So yeah, this was my first experience trying to pay directly with LN and it was frustrating. And I consider myself fairly technically savvy, run my own node and everything. If this is the first experience of LN for a normie they're less likely to even want to try again, whereas I'm still willing to give it a shot since I believe in bitcoin.

I apologize for your experience with Breez. Firstly, there is a beta warning when you install Breez. Secondly, there is a inactivity warning before channels are closed. It's worth mentioning the experience in Breez is much better these days, but there are still issues with Lightning unfortunately. Please share your telegram handle or email address please.
