After almost 3.5 years running my umbrel raspi I am sunsetting it for good. While I gave up on being a routing node and closed all the channels and opened one big private channel to wallet of Satoshi it become much more stable.

I was using it for zaps and other small ln purchases/donations but today my node randomly went down. After power cycling asking for help on telegram (and getting ignored) I reflashed the SD card and it came back.

But Iโ€™m over this node being unstable. So time to close the last channel and sweep the funds. This was my first successful node and I feel sad moving on from it but after today now it is time. Iโ€™ll retire and store it away with my other bitcoin hardware.

My casa node
My nodl
And my Coinmine ๐Ÿ˜‚

Now maybe Iโ€™ll get the purposely built umbrel node. I love that I can self host NWC and use tailscale with Zeus! That alone makes me want to stay with umbrel.

Questioning if Bitcoin really is the future or a fad?

reply

Bitcoin is the present

I've known so many people who wanted to be musicians but concluded it was hopeless.

I've been wondering how differentiated their music was or if they were just trying to create music that mostly compared and competed with everyone else's.

reply

An outstanding musician delivering their music in a standard way is hopeless.

An OK musician doing something different and attractive, can make a lot of money.

reply

That's what I'd guess. When I'm listening to music, I'm not seeking the 50th greatest band in the genre. But I frequently look for something I haven't heard before.

Figs and grapes are seen on the market here in Turkey. Drying season starts.

reply

One day I'm going to travel to Turkey just to eat figs.

Before moving to Austin, we lived in a town in California where figs grew really well. It's one of the big things I miss about California.

reply

Nice.
If you would visit here, try "Bardacik" figs. We called it "morning doctor" here as it usually picked in the morning.

Work went very well yesterday. Took on a job for a boat, woohoo, billable work!
I also heard they hired a yard electrician, so I will be able to focus on boat work, and not on fixing all the random broken crap in the yard. Also did an impromptu podcast with @1EastSideTony until it was well past my bed time, but we had a nice time shooting the shit and talking about some of my event planning.
I'm planning for a Bitcoin Vortex in October, which involves the local meetups all happening in the same week.
I also am in the brainstorm stage of a yet unnamed, ticketed, intimate, multi-day Bitcoin event for next Spring to fill in the cultural gap of the Bitcoin Conference leaving my Miami. Set the first planning meeting for 6pm Eastern Time, September 6! Anyone interested in helping organize it can save the date and get in touch with me.

reply

And while you're here, check out this post I made yesterday regarding an announcement from the Miami-area Bitcoin community!

While I do aspire to Bitcoin Boat: the floating think tank, these days I just run wires and figure out why things don't turn on.

Not bad for 6 am. It's rare when I beat the snail.

reply

6am? worldwide Bitcoiners!, 24 hour timezones!

reply

I have an advantage. The new daily goes up at 11:00 AM in my timezone.

reply

Yeah - we both have that advantage..

reply

So I'm the only insomniac here?

reply

No. I got that as well and work in different time zones lol. I only spend half my time at 11am.

reply

Got to encourage the snail. I am not superstitious but worry without it BTC wonโ€™t get to 100k lol

reply

Don't worry, he's not going anywhere.
