Meta Music Monday is cooking today so I didn't want interrupt the flow but I need some feedback from the Survivor Pool participants.
How would you like the weekly pick submission deadline structured? Currently considering a few options:
a) hard deadline- all picks for the week must be in before the Thursday night game kickoff. Say Thursday at 6pm est or something along these lines. b) flex deadline- if you want to use a team playing the Thursday night game you must have your pick in before kickoff Thursday, but if you don't plan to use a team playing Thursday you can have until say 6pm est on Friday. c) No thursday games- we keep a later submission deadline and just ignore the Thursday games. I don't favour this option personally but just throwing it out there.
Feel free to share, if you have another idea. Looking forward to the feedback so I can put together the rules and info in the next couple days.
Cheers, GR
Flexi deadline could work, as in picks in before kickoff of game being chosen, to allow for all last minute injuries that could sway decision. It would require a bit of an honesty policy though.
Some logistics, who's tracking who's used what teams as I'm assuming you only get to use one team once? SN doesn't time stamp comments fully, so how do we know who got their submissions in on time? If you're doing this you could have submissions come in as late as the Monday night game.
Fixed groups the game week, submissions lock for the whole game week at kick off Thursday?
No one wants to see a "Hamlin" game again. But should that situation arise, what is the commissioners stance on cancelled or called off games?
I think an honesty policy should be ok... But also... Don't take the piss.
If those were the set options. I'd vote B. But I think a Friday deadline for any games not played on Thursday seems too early, especially for MNF games. I don't know how you'd police the "submission for the game close at kick off for that game" thing though.

I would be ok with a Saturday submission deadline as well but since I have to manage it all I don't want submissions rolling in 15 mins before games on Sunday start and I need to figure out if they were on time or not. If we were to set a Saturday deadline. I could log in Sunday morning and every submission that is there is good to go.
I think if there were a game cancelled for any reason. I would be ok allowing that person to carry forward to the next week and they need to pick 2 games that week provided carrying them forward doesn't win them the whole thing. If carrying them forward makes them the last person standing then they have to pick the next week to win or we have some sort of tiebreaker. I am going to post about a tiebreaker tomorrow to get everyone's ideas. It's possible the last 2 or 3 go out on the same week and how do we manage that. Split pot or have a tiebreaker the following week(s) until one is standing.
reply
We do a last man standing football ⚽ our tiebreaker is if there was no clear winner ie last two or whatever went out same week. Everyone auto back in and we start over. But that's 38 game weeks as opposed to 18. It's not out of the realms of possibility that we all go out week 1 🤣. I don't know if you want to do a buy back in or just a everyone back in and restart without rebuying in.
I feel a Saturday submission is reasonable considering it's being managed manually. It's meant to be enjoyable not work ya know.

Option b is more or less what my pool uses now actually. I misspoke in my prior message. I vote option b.

Sometimes my zapper clicks twice instead of once. Does that happen to you as well or maybe my laptop is just getting old and has a sticky zapper? They didn't forsee zaps then they put these things through the repetitive stress tests.
Anyways, I agree. This is my preferred option.
reply
Once in a while. I got you back.
reply
It was only 10 extra sats I sent. So sending you back the original 50 and further breaking my laptop zapper. One day it will probably go haywire and tip my entire SN stack.
Speaking of which. I usually like to donate some of my tipped and rewarded sats to geyser fund projects. Not all, but some. Have you seen any Bitcoin fundraising done on SN yet. I haven't noticed it but that seems to make a ton of sense.
reply
I started copying Anita Posch's Orange Pill newsletter to SN every Saturday and forwarding the sats to her. I didn't get a great response and haven't done it the past few weeks. I'll get back to it. Months ago I also got solicited by a few guys alleged to be from Ghana, but it became apparent they were scammers. I think donations is an excellent idea and I am interested to hear your thoughts.

Traffic on weekends seems to be lower. Maybe try a different day or maybe give it a catchy name to grab people's attention. I also find shaming people is an effective strategy. It works in my friend group at least but maybe not for everyone. If I see a worthy cause I want to make people aware of I might forward it and say "I know you are a cheap bastard but this is a really good cause so do me a favour and dig deep this one time".
reply
Good idea. She sends it out on Saturday, so that's why I picked that day. Maybe I'll wait until Monday from now on. What other ideas do you have?
reply
Are you just posting the link or writing a post about it. I apologize for my ignorance but I must have missed these posts from you. I think I do recall clicking on one and responding awhile back that Anita is the best. I am a fan of hers as well.
If you are just posting a link, I think you should do a short write up with it. I think a Siggy endorsement carries a lot of weight on this site. You are well respected here. So if you do a small write up with the link saying you want to highlight what Anita is doing, I think people will be more compelled to click the link.
You can always ask them to zap your post and say you will match the zaps up to a certain level and donate that to Anita.
I'm fine with a) or b), but I'd like the Thursday games to be in play. Remember that the new flex rules make it so later in the season teams could be flexed into Thursday games, so that could really screw people up if they don't have many teams left to choose from.
reply
Agree. So far 3 votes for b.

Thursday games are tough, lots of times important players are game-time or game-day decisions. I'd say "C", but am down for whatever. Any hard info on where the sats get sent or where we submit weekly picks? Will it be a post here? Not sure if I've missed anything.
reply
Thanks for the feedback. I will post the full details tomorrow. Need to clarify one more thing- tiebreakers. So I will post about that today and then get everyone's feedback and post the rules, instructions etc tomorrow.

I like option a!
reply
Thanks for the feedback. Not looking good for team A though.
reply
I like option b as well, though one question: why would Friday be the cutoff for teams not playing on Thursday? Why not closer to the Sunday games?
reply
Saturday is ok for me too but since I have to manage all the submissions and are they in on time and such. I would like to be able to do that latest Sunday morning. Next year maybe we can get fancy and get someone to code up a web page for us and you can lightning login and do your picks up until 15 mins before kickoff of any team you are choosing. But for this year, we will do it the old fashion way with me keeping track and hope I don't screw it up. haha.
