When? I think it was when google show the world how much money they can make by handling information. (Remember Seinfeld episode when Newman said, "those who control the mail, control the information"?)
It ain't the bad word, they made it into one. Because they missing the major point. Privacy is not secrecy, plus they profit from the information they collect. That's why. When I say THEY I mean tech companies in bed with the governments "for your protection" of course.
