We are set to close on 1500 sq ft 3bed 2bath in 2 weeks but in-laws are calling it tiny, and constantly bringing up the size. Here is a quote from them to show the types of things they say:

“TVs are on sale now too! The 85in may be bigger than your living room though!!”

Right now it’s just me and my spouse so I think it’s more than enough space. But these comments are getting to my spouse’s head and now spouse is saying things like “let’s save this table for when we get a bigger house”.

I didn’t think this was our forever home but aspiring towards bigger and better even before moving makes me feel inadequate.
Has anyone experienced something like this?

I live in a small 30sq box just in front of the ocean... don't care about other people opinion, and I continue enjoining life and surfing 🤙 PV

Yes by my wife. She always wants more space but then fills it with junk so I ain't going anywhere.

Stick to your guns. My motto is buy the most affordable, suitable home for you and your family in a nice area.

Big houses suck. More to clean, more space that needs heated/cooled, you more easily accumulate useless shit. 0/10, I'd stick with a smaller place.

You won't believe it but I still have my little apartment in Germany of 49 square meters (no TV). In spain me and my wife (kids out) are living in a nice but small apartment apartment of 95 m2 (no TV). All rented. We are both saving more in BTC that way. When I am on Crete I always rent a 40 m2 apartment by the sea. The south is crazy cheap. It's 300 euro/ month. And still no TV. I can't stand it....

Um I live in 600 sqft with my spouse and it's plenty of space. Our tv is 32 inches.

Prognosis: your in-laws are incurably normal. Don't change for them.

Sometimes family is a burden that is not easy to bear.

Just ignore them. if you can...

Make jokes about it yourself. Own the joke and they'll lose interest. It mostly works. Mostly..
