I don't really pitch it to people.

I did explain it to my wife using the standard tagline "it's like hackernews but we pay you bitcoin", to which she responded "yea but what's hackernews?" lol

I say “it’s like Reddit but your karma is bitcoin”

Their wheels then usually start turning attempting to imagine it.

Then I will say “it costs a little Bitcoin to post and comment but if your content is good you’ll usually earn more than you spent back. All the revenue the site earns is paid to the best content creators.”

Wheels now spinning furiously, stuck in mud.

“We’re also really fond of using a pretty straightforward trust metric for things like ranking because it seems more natural, non-authoritarian, and less psychologically manipulative.”

Their engine overheats and they’re stranded.

“It’s all just kind of an experiment to see if we can make better online communities. It’s easier to understand by actually trying to use it but it’s not for everyone, so maybe don’t.”

I use referrals

I tried pitching it in Reddit but only on pro Bitcoin subs. I'm careful where I pitch it because a typical Redditor is a toxic user with his echo chamber.

Why would I sell SN to people?, only interesting and interested people should join, and they will find their way eventually.

I just give the url they can make up their own mind :)

I rarely pitch SN. I do talk about how great it is and well the incentives work in practice.

I just tell them there's a tree on the internet the grows Bitcoin, they should come and be picking it. 😂

My experience is that referrals have a really low conversion rate, regardless of how receptive someone seemed.

I've also had no success with SN referrals, but that won't stop me from sharing my approach.

I mostly drop referrals on people who are lamenting that there is no good alternative to Reddit. Depending on what aspect of Reddit they're complaining about, I tell them that SN has really high level engagement and isn't full of left-wing cancel culture mobs, but that it is quite focused on Bitcoin and economic topics (maybe our burgeoning sports community will bring some people in).

If I happen to see a post about something that also has a great thread on SN, then I'll post a link and make a pitch to hop into the SN conversation.

I describe it like HN but with bitcoin on lightning as the way to limit spam and incentivize good comments/content.

Most people in here are Bitcoiners and I preferred to keep it that way with quality posts

I just say "Dya want the biggest info host about BTC? go to SN"
