Tailscale + Zeus + Tor = God Mode
reply
Can you describe your process? I use Zeus and Tor to connect to my home node, but it is a little finicky. Does Tailscale negate the need for Tor?
reply
It can negate the need to connect to your Tor-only node over Tor. I used Tailscale and Zeus to connect to my node when I was using Umbrel. Super fast.
reply
Tor just protects your IP address from the public. Some nodes just use clearnet and risk IP exposure

That is sick. There were ways to do it before but it wasn't easy and I believe it required different third party apps. VPN is a requirement on the go so I might actually be able to utilize this more.

I agree. Very cool. I haven't used Tailscale myself yet but have read quite a bit about it. My one concern is that Tailscale is proprietary, right? I'd love to have Mullvad partner with an open source solution.

Some parts of tailscale isn't opensource headscale is fully opensource version: https://github.com/juanfont/headscale

Mullvad accepts shitcoins/crypto
In working on https://circularbtc.xyz, I found one VPN service that doesn't: https://lnvpn.net/

It's not about paying with bitcoin, it's about destroying fiat. Do you understand why a lot of Strike is LARPing?

I totally get why groups or organizations would use Tailscale instead of running their own secure environments in-house. Networking in a mesh is awesome.
What I haven't wrapped my head around yet is the usefulness of tailscale for individuals. What makes it better than just turning on my VPN? I can pass some data from one device to the other? I have 30 other ways to do that. Someone tell me what I'm missing here.
reply
This is pretty cool. That's exactly the situation I'm in. Mullvad for some stuff, Tailscale for other and I have to flip between those.
reply
Cool integration, but annoying it doesn't work with an existing paid up Mullvad account. Makes sense for Tailscale to monetise as a reseller I suppose.
reply
How does it actually work? Like do they ask you to fill in account number in the Tailscale app?
reply
Nah, you just pay tailscale through their site for mullvad access. So you can't connect to an existing Mullbad account. In either case it does compromise your privacy, as you're associating an identifiable Tailscale account with VPN activity.

Nice ! I'm using LNC to reach my node without deactivating my VPN (happening to be Mullvad) but it works less smoothly than tailscale for sure. Super good news, it's a must have feature for Bitcoin and LN node runners
