If I'm not mistaken, one of the reporters that writes for the NYT is related to the owners of the Internet Archive.

The Internet Archive is actually a 501c 3 though - this means it's a charity or foundation and so isn't owned but run by a board of trustees.
The Wayback Machine was created by Amazon and a company that Amazon eventually bought called Alexa Internet.
But there might be all sorts of chances that your memory remembered some sort of link...

The NYTs deserves to be held in the same regard as any other internet rag. Actually, they should be held in lower regard for their past abuses of their prestige. Terrible organization with blood on its hands. See my comments on Stalin and WMD. There are many other examples I'm sure.
