I’ve noticed a recent surge in Lightning payments on Wallet of Satoshi, but it doesn’t seem to be caused by jumps in Nostr activity or THNDR Games activity (both were partly responsible for the early 2023 increase in WoS payments).
Anyone have a good theory as to where the extra payments are coming from/going to?

And is so easy to limit that spam: increase the min HTLC on your routing nodes.

that’s a good one, looks like 64k satograms sent to date, half of which probably hit WoS wallets.
payments on WoS are nearly up 100k/week though, so feels like there should be other contributors too.

See? This is the beauty of LN: nobody knows what users are doing over LN, not even custodial services!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hear that chain -anal? You are fucked, obsolete, meaningless.
This surge is huge! This is pure signal!

Oh they know. If you think they are giving @kr full access to their database then you're dead wrong.

not really. They will see just a bunch of txs between WoS users but not with my wallets, for example.
Don't get me wrong, I am not praising the use of WoS.
I am praising the use of LN.

are sure its not nostr activity? people have been experimenting with zap splits recently, turning 1 zap into 130 zaps with a single tap

it could be, the zap experiments seem like a plausible explanation. i was mostly looking at nostr usage and noticed that adoption hasn’t spiked up.

doubling the amount of txs, is quite big for a conference. How many users were there, 100k ?
I doubt it was that only.

Do we have any way to verify these numbers? Or do we need to trust WoS?
Can you think of any incentive they might have for inflating them? Perhaps a search for funding or similar?

personally i don’t have a way to verify these numbers, i’m operating under the assumption that the data they share is correct

Satograms, anywhere from 7 to 15 sats being sent with urls in the notes. No obligation to check out the URL. Let the Sats flow.
