yeah it's tough. Do I trust big tech to be the arbiters of the truth? No. Clearly a liberal bias in media and tech. Definitely have been colossal missteps from the "experts" as well- flip-flopping on masks, lab leak hypothesis etc. Do I think decentralization will lead us further into flat-earth territory shitholes of Facebook style misinformation? yes.
As someone who is dead center politically I find I just hate everyone.
Quality information is everyone's personal responsibility, whether they realize it or not. Decentralization doesn't guarantee perfection -- there's no such thing -- but it does encourage individuals to sharpen their swords of information literacy instead of asking to be properly spoon fed. This is the only way to have a truly resilient society -- and the current situation regarding COVID, vaccines, and censorship should be a testament to that.
I know of a couple of independent investigative journalists that call into question the entire Covid rhetoric. These guys are not nut jobs, with outlandish claims that can't be backed up with hard facts, but the likes of YT have removed their channels and continue to promote the world government stance, despite the misinformation contained therein.
Decentralized platforms, such as SN, are becoming evermore important in the fight against censorship and the promotion of free speech.
