I have a community based project bias too. It's just a personal preference. I love the idea of helping people for whom daily subsistence needs can be met with bitcoin. But, I also agree we should have consensus. I can make my own donations privately.

You are well qualified to make a judgement (certainly more so than others) but wouldn’t want you to stress out over it. 

Small contributions can make significant impact. If you are not sure which charity you could maybe do a poll? I’m not mad on supporting dev projects but rather community based BTC projects..but I’ll go with the masses on here. I would like to see a rotating range of charities in an ideal SN world.

In all seriousness, I am nervous about my ability to vet charities. I like the idea of small ones, since we can't make an impact with big projects. Good example: Open Sats. Great initiative, but Jack Dorsey gave them $10 million recently. On the other hand, scam risk is higher with small charities.
