Shaping up to be a wild weekend for sports with MLB divisional round playoffs starting today and NFL Sunday tomorrow. It also happens to be Thanksgiving weekend in Canada.
I am looking forward to the divisional round starting but I am most looking forward to the Cowboys v.s 49ers on Sunday night. 49ers have looked great so far this year but they have not played a difficult opponent yet so this will be a good test for both teams. Besides, it is a classic rivalry.
So speaking of rivalries. Shill me your top 3 rivalries in sports.

Is Islanders/Rangers a big thing in New York? They play each other more than the Yankees and Mets do so it makes sense.

It's cyclical. It wanes if both teams suck. The rivalry goes back to the mid 70s when the underdog Isles beat the Rangers in a first round playoff in 1975. Then, the four cup run while the Rangers were waiting for a 1940 repeat. Maybe I'm living in the past and younger fans don't care as much anymore.

There has been talk of a second team in the Toronto area for decades now. I always wondered what the rivalry would be like. It will probably never happen though. No way the Leafs want another team in their territory. Imagine if that team actually got good and won something and Leafs fans realized they were paying 500 bucks a ticket to watch garbage hockey for the past 50 years.

You describe the Rangers in the 70s. The Isles built quickly but organically back then, with a brilliant front office. Now the NHL hands new franchises a playoff roster.

Yeah. I am not a fan of that. I know their is a lot of money involved in getting a new franchise especially if ownership has to pony up money to build the arena so I understand the desire for new franchises to hit the ground running but being a stanley cup contender year 1 is ridiculous.

Packers vs Bears - people forget how close the rivalry is for over 100 years because of how dominant the Packers have been the last 30 years. Packers 106 - Bears 95, and 6 ties.
Cubs - Cardinals. While the Cardinals have more championships, it's the Cubs that actually have more head to head wins dating back to the 1890s.
I can't really pick a 3rd because I have no rooting interest, but college football rivalries like Florida/Georgia, Texas/Oklahoma (playing right now), or in basketball Duke/UNC are always interesting to watch on a lazy day.

Formula 1 sprint race today. Max Verstappen may be crowned a 3-time world champion momentarily, which is mighty impressive. He's been untouchable this year but Formula 1 produces some fantastic rivalries from time to time

That is quite impressive. I don't follow much auto racing but one of my close friends is a huge formula one, and indy car fan. I have to get him on here to talk motorsports.

Well I will like to talk about football, the universe game. Speaking of rivalries, everyone knows that exist between FCB and RMA, also strong rivalries exist between ACM and INTER.
