I'm also a zero inbox kind of guy. Neat idea!
The motivation is to quickly determine what you haven't seen. I've been kind of backgrounding this class of features recently because it seems underexplored, ie how can the community give you more value in less time.
Do you have any thoughts on how this sound work in finer detail?

I would try to replicate just the behavior in the mail application.
  • Swipe the component left could do the work probably. 

  • Or simply add icon on right side that would hide the post on click?
  • Or Slack has introduced interesting behavior recently. When you click on the message and then press esc the message disappears from Unread section.
