He even offered the local council a substantial percentage of his Bitcoin holdings as a reward if they allowed him to search the landfill, but they declined his request due to environmental concerns and logistical challenges.

As of October 2023, Howells has not been able to recover his lost Bitcoin, and it has remained buried under tons of garbage in the landfill.
