Don't do it, it makes no sense, as it actually increases the chances of injury
Much better to stretch after your workout, when your muscles are warm, and it also helps with recovery.
Do a warmup instead.

Quick 2 minute stretch - touch your toes a few times, wrist, ankle & neck rotations + 50 jumping jacks. Works every time :)
