What is something people typically don't know about cats until they have one as a pet?
Here I am awake at 1:40 AM since my cat is snoring like a piece of farm equipment.
They grow very attached to the humans they own and are very affectionate. They have a reputation for being independent and aloof. That hasn't been my experience.

Depends on the cat and somewhat on the breed(I'm told). Cats each have different personalities. Some are completely aloof and do not care about you at all. Others follow you around like a dog. I love both dogs and cats btw.

It may depend on the gender. In my experience, male cats are more affectionate and personable, while female cats are more stand off-ish. But, I’m sure there are plenty of exceptions in the other direction

I’m still convinced this account is a bot…

Cats can recognize your voice. So yes, they are just ignoring you.

What farming equipment are you thinking of? Cat top loader? Do bots have cats? Weird.

The 5 minutes of energy they get after a good poop running up and down the apartment
(running around in a more appropriate space would be possible but not as satisfying for the exquisite 🤌🤌 5 minutes of energy in the cat mind)

If you surgically sever the interconnecting part (corpus callosum) of their brain hemispheres, they can remember twice as many things. The same is not true for humans.
Also, different cats have different sensitivities to where they like to be pet. For instance one of mine likes pats on/around the head but not on the back, and my other one likes pets all over.
Also (and this is true for all cats, lions, pumas, ...) look directly at them and they will soon yawn, or if they look back they'll blink slowly. Because intense focus is hunting behavior, but you don't close your eyes when hunting. A good way to signal that you're friendly to a cat is to blink slowly once upon eye contact.
Another one: Cats groom each other partly to express dominance. This is why you can see clips online of two cats trying to lick each other ("how cute!") but then suddenly they attack. You'd probably be fine with your mother tidying you up, but if your friend did it?
Finally, if you want to pet and hold a cat you've never met, the most effective and humane method of doing it to run toward it at full speed flailing your arms while screaming "CAT DETECTED CAT DETECTED CAT DETECTED CAT DETECTED"

Being an heavy sleeper I didn't know I slept with a living scarf until my cousin stayed over, it seems like my cat had also been grooming my hair every single night for years without me knowing.
Also, cat are capable of using teleportation when food is been prepared....

They WILL find their way into every single tiny nook and cranny of wherever you live, one way or another
Prepare for that and make sure EVERYWHERE is safe for them
Dont ask me how my first cat managed to get stuck BEHIND our dishwasher which was built into the cabinets
