How about to make it more like a Reddit clone with subs?

I like Lobster's use of tags instead, personally.

Interesting, never thought of that possibility.. makes perfect sense. Hadnt heard of lobster before. Wonder if there's a way to vote certain tags/forums into existence based on interest.

The question is how far will it go? Is it going to be a small and cozy Bitcoin-related community or something bigger and chaotic like Reddit?
I have seen many Reddit alternatives on the one hand and some social networks with payments on the other hand and they all seem too trashy, pop or formalistic.
This one somehow feels right. Having a less pop and more geeky Reddit alternative would be awesome.

Another alternative is to make SN federated e.g. by using ActivityPub protocol (that's what Mastodon, Pixelfed or Peertube are based on).
Different folks could deploy their own version (instance) of SN on their own domain. And then as a user you could always see and choose between "personalized view", "local news" and "global" news.
- personalized view - whatever instances you selected
- local view - only news from your local instance (e.g. you could have stacker.news as local)
- global view - all news from all instances (that your instance knows about)
This would jump start a full new sats based web of federated news. And it would be incentivized by sats... :)

Yep, there are a lot of options, but somehow this place already feels right. It's somehow already combined many good things together. There's been a lot of technically great things already but they are all mostly dead.
The questions is can we expand this fortunate combination a little further beyond Bitcoin-related stuff? Can we make the next small step by adding subs and see if it's going to work?

personal i think to reach new places you have to use different roads.
