He was navigating that keyboard like I’ve never seen someone navigate a keyboard,” MaGruder said. “He didn’t have to use a mouse because he knew all the hotkeys.”
Truly was an entertaining read. It seems like every time there's a story like this the person the feds nab comes off like an idiot. But the story tries to make them out as some evil genius. It makes the feds look pretty lame IMO. No way they even have a prayer of getting this guy without those terrible chain analysis dbags.
It reminds me of all the stories of the failed terrorist the FBI nabs in its stings. They find some vulnerable dude and feed him a bunch of ideas. Do all the work and get him to try to go through with it and then arrest him when he demonstrates the willingness. Then they pat each other on the back and say a job well done. We need more funding to protect the people. Meanwhile the actual intelligent and effective scumbags execute their plans and kill people. That's kinda the vibe I get from this story and this guy.
The judge really must have liked him. A year and a day is a great federal sentence. If you are sentenced to more than a year, you get good time. He'll probably do about 9 months in a minimum security facility. Tennis and a nice gym.
This guy is a legend. Made the same mistakes so many do. Dude is running around as one of the most liquid individuals in the world with enough money to move industry acting like a complete donkey with his OpSec. How tall would you walk in 2030 knowing you're on the Forbes top-50 without anyone knowing? Losing that is punishment enough, glad he got off lightly, he's no threat to anyone.
Thanks for sharing Siggy, purely entertaining read.
Who needs a mouse when you've got someone who dances effortlessly across the keyboard, unleashing the power of hotkeys like a symphony conductor?
Lmao I literally copied this exact same quote to come here and share the idiocy
Thanks for posting this. Love seeing those pictures of seized physical Bitcoin too.
Interesting read. The physical bitcoins got me lol
Got @amaluenda too.
Some of those looked like the original Casascius Silver BTC Rounds.
"bitcoin OG from 2009" - they must be lol

Different Jimmy from the looks of those photos. I love the pictures of him with TWO beautiful women. One wasn't enough.
yep just trolling lol
Oh, I know. It was pretty funny. Entertaining story. His one screw up: using Coinbase!
Great read
Amazing story!
I heard they had to negotiate for years to get Jimmy to reveal the private keys

If he really is one of the "OG" contributors to bitcoin core, then he very easily could have mined thousands of coins early on, explaining his wealth.
I have to laugh at the use of "OG" as if it's a new term they've created in this context. My god MSM is horrific.
Here's a press release from April 2023:

Stealing is wrong but he doesn’t deserve to be mistreated in prison for his crime. If true then I think this is a fair punishment.
I agree. In my experience most judges would not have been this compassionate
That's practically a vacation package! Maybe they'll throw in a spa day for good behavior. :-)
