The Bounty

I want to start off by saying that I am deeply grateful to all of the SN developers for the incredible amount of work that they put into making this site. Unable to directly contribute to the project, I'd like to offer you all a bounty for the addition an ~econ sub to SN.
This is in light of the recent advent of a Meta Econ Takeover. Out of a preference for incentives and bargaining over protest, I am choosing to put up a bounty to developers. Upon the creation a ~econ sub, this bounty of 25,000 sats will be paid out to @k00b, @kr, @ekzyis, or whichever developer pushes the commit/PR that creates the ~econ sub. I will also forward sats from this post to said devs.
Other stackers, please consider putting up similar bounties to compensate the devs for making this change.

Arguments for an ~econ Sub

An economics centered sub would be greatly beneficial to the SN community for the following reasons:

There are Economic Topics that Don't Fit on ~bitcoin

Despite being deeply interested in economics, many bitcoiners, including myself, find it hard to always fit economic topics into the ~bitcoin sub. There is simply too many important facets of economics that don't directly relate to Bitcoin. For example, if a stacker wanted to discuss Social Security and tax policy, they would be limited only to the ~bitcoin sub, even though Social Security is only tangentially tied to Bitcoin.

An ~econ Sub Aligns With the Bitcoin Ethos

Bitcoin is not just a technology, but also an economic force. Because of this, fully understanding Bitcoin and its ramifications requires meaningful economic discussions. Both economic fundamentals and high level theory are essential to developing the Bitcoin space. To do so, they need a space to thrive.

The ~tech Sub is a Reasonable Precedent

Like mentioned before, Bitcoin is half technology and half economics. Therefore, if ~tech has been given its own sub, it is only reasonable that we give ~econ, the other part of Bitcoin's soul, a sub as well. Unlike the Meta Sports Takeover, the request at hand is not an arbitrary one based purely on popular support. It is rooted in precedent and thus would not lead to the flurry of sub creation that some stackers have warned against.

In conclusion, I, a humble pleb, am offering you, the developers, a meager bounty from my stack and several reasonable arguments in support of an ~econ sub. Thank you for considering this proposal.

Would you rather we create the ~econ sub or would you prefer you/someone who actually knows a lot about econ launch and nuture it?
reply
That makes a lot of sense. I'd be willing to put time into sourcing good content, and I suspect @Undisciplined would as well since they started the Meta Econ Takeover
reply
I will happily vacate the meta sub, if and when there is an option to post in an econ sub, and I am open to whatever is required to launch and nurture it.
reply
Apologies if this is a silly question. Is the ~bitcoin sub curated/nurtured by users at all?
reply
It took significant effort to get started and especially to start it required me making sure good bitcoin content wasn’t ignored and new comers were engaged. I also spent several hours a day sourcing content.
As time goes on I can do less of this but it’s still an hour or more of my average day.
Sadly theses don’t turn on like a faucet. Someone has to commit to dancing alone for as long as it takes to attract other dancers and even then they have to keep dancing until there’s so many people no one notices they’ve stopped.
~nostr and ~tech are relatively dead because no one is very energized to make those subs what they should be.
Does that make sense?

I enjoy it because it’s just hanging out here but some of it is not casual usage.

you surely already know this, but someone just has to link this video
edit: lol, i just realized that tbh, the second follower looks a bit like @supertestnet
reply
That video is great, it does take some guts to be the first follower, so to speak
reply
It's not. You can post anything and @k00b might complain if it's in the wrong sub but other than that, nothing happens, lol
But on the other hand, you could say it's nurtured by everyone by posting or zapping good content :)
But I think that wasn't what you meant?
reply
I’m guessing no PRs will be merged that create new subs until user created subs are supported.
