Pieter Wuille analyzed the expected block interval and duration for difficulty periods given a constant hashrate. If the hashrate remains constant, blocks would be expected to take an average 10 minutes, 0.5958 seconds and the expected length for a difficulty period would settle on 2 weeks, 20 minutes, and 1.19 seconds, about 2016/2014 of what was targeted.
