Yes and no. I am concerned about how badly things have been going sideways for him once the 49ers get behind and are one dimensional. He looks like a 2nd year QB to me trying to work through his first real struggles in the NFL and not having Samuel and Trent Williams is really hurting the run game. I thought he played pretty well up until the 4th Q yesterday. 49ers had some costly penalties that stalled drives and a couple big dropped passes.
I guess my concern is the 49ers are front runners. They need to get out to an early lead and then allow the D to be hyperaggressive and grab the momentum of the game. They have been falling behind the past few weeks and they seem to get out of their game plan when they fall behind. Some of that is on Shanahan. He is 0-37 now when the 49ers are trailing by 8 or more in the 4th Q. A lot of that has to do with never having a dominant QB but you would think he would be able to figure out a way to win a few at least.
My impression of the game was that it was two good teams playing pretty good football, but the 49ers made some really untimely mistakes. I still thought Purdy looked better than most of the starting QB's in the league.
Also, Joe Burrow is back and there's no shame in losing to him when he's on.

Yeah the 49ers were home but coming off a Monday night game and the Bengals were coming off a bye. Burrow is healthy and his weapons are healthy.
The shame is the 49ers lost two very winnable games before this one and full credit to the Bengals but a lot of the issues that led to those other losses crept up in this one too. Need to clean it up and be ready for the Jags after the bye. Jags are hot right now, even with a healthy team off the bye, playing them at home will be tough.

It would be harder if they had any fanbase to speak of. Still, East Coast games are always tough for West Coast teams.
