pull down to refresh

That was not a fun Sunday of football for me. I already felt like crap (everyone in my house is sick with cold/flu), then the 49ers lose their 3rd game in a row (a lot of mistakes but Bengals are back- Burrow looks great) and the Chiefs of all teams lose to the Broncos and knock me out of the survivor pool.
Only 3 competitors remain in the Survivor Pool and shout out to @nifty for never using his rebuy. If he doesn't win the pool I think he should get his 10k buy in back for that accomplishment. Impressive.
I will be watching world series game 3 tonight and MNF if anyone is around and wants to chat.
@Undisciplined will be rolling out the NBA in-season tournament pool this week so keep an eye out for that.
Speaking of basketball, have any of you watched the series Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers dynasty. I watched the first season over the past few days while I have been feeling like crap and I am really enjoying it. They seem to take some liberties with the story to add some additional drama and shock value but it's good I am looking forward to the second season. My wife grew up in LA so she has been enjoying a bit of the series too for the nostalgia.
Sats for all.
Cheers, GR
I'll put up the inaugural In-Season Tournament post today. First predictions will be Wednesday for the Friday games.
My wife and I watched Winning Time right when it came out. It's a very entertaining show. We haven't watched season 2, yet.
Bummer about your 49ers and the shocking win by the Donkeys over the Chiefs. I lost precious Satoshis on both of those games. I need the Raiders to upset tonight, if I'm going to get in the black for the season.

Alright I am ready.
I am sure the 49ers will get themselves sorted out. Tough schedule coming up though after the bye. Jags, Buccs (not so tough), seahawks, eagles, seahawks. Need to win at least 3 of those games and if they still have designs on a shot at number 1 seed better win 4.
Eagles have a tough schedule coming up too.

Any concerns about Purdy turning into a pumpkin?

I do wonder where Big Money Bosa is. His hold out clearly has affected the first half of the year. Dude has 3 sacks now and teams aren't even double teaming him anymore. They need to pick up another edge rusher before tomorrow's deadline. 36M bucks a year, highest paid D player in the game and I think I heard he is ranked 58th amongst defensive players this year. That's not going to cut it. He needs to be a top 5 player.
reply
That's interesting. They were talking about him leading the league in QB hits. That's what Maxx Crosby's recent seasons have been like: lots of pressures and hits, but not as many sacks. Of course, Crosby's getting double or triple teamed every snap while being egregiously held, which I assumed was Bosa's story this season.

I imagine it's hard to stay motivated after that kind of fuck you money. The game is painful.
Sad how quickly the defense turned to dogshit.
I watched every CMC game in college and it's crazy seeing him doing the same thing against NFL players.
reply
Yes and no. I am concerned about how badly things have been going sideways for him once the 49ers get behind and are one dimensional. He looks like a 2nd year QB to me trying to work through his first real struggles in the NFL and not having Samuel and Trent Williams is really hurting the run game. I thought he played pretty well up until the 4th Q yesterday. 49ers had some costly penalties that stalled drives and a couple big dropped passes.
I guess my concern is the 49ers are front runners. They need to get out to an early lead and then allow the D to be hyperaggressive and grab the momentum of the game. They have been falling behind the past few weeks and they seem to get out of their game plan when they fall behind. Some of that is on Shanahan. He is 0-37 now when the 49ers are trailing by 8 or more in the 4th Q. A lot of that has to do with never having a dominant QB but you would think he would be able to figure out a way to win a few at least.
reply
My impression of the game was that it was two good teams playing pretty good football, but the 49ers made some really untimely mistakes. I still thought Purdy looked better than most of the starting QB's in the league.
Also, Joe Burrow is back and there's no shame in losing to him when he's on.
reply
Yeah the 49ers were home but coming off a Monday night game and the Bengals were coming off a bye. Burrow is healthy and his weapons are healthy.
The shame is the 49ers lost two very winnable games before this one and full credit to the Bengals but a lot of the issues that led to those other losses crept up in this one too. Need to clean it up and be ready for the Jags after the bye. Jags are hot right now, even with a healthy team off the bye, playing them at home will be tough.
i've been telling anyone who'll listen (and a whole loada people who wouldn't) that the chiefs are not the juggernaut powerhouse they were in previous seasons, they're completely beatable. but losing to the broncos... i didn't see that coming at all.
reply
No teams looks dominant this year. Cowboys did then hit a wall. 49ers did and then hit a wall. Chiefs have off and on and the Eagles keep finding ways to win even though every week it looks like a bad team is going to beat them. They have a really difficult schedule coming up with chiefs, bills, cowboys 2x, 49ers, seahawks, so we will find out if the Eagles are great or just kind of lucky this year. Or maybe a bit of both.
reply
i really don't know what to make of the eagles. like you mentioned, they just look like a decent team stealing wins from the jaws of defeat sometimes. and then other times they look unstoppable.
reply
Congrats @nifty. I have never lasted this long in my other pool either.
reply
Yes, very impressive.
reply
great job @nifty with some of the big upsets that's taken out so many of us form the pool its incredibly impressive that you've still got your re-buy.
i don't want to talk about football :( i can't bring myself to do it. it's all too raw. i never thought i'd be this sad to beat the packers but it just doesn't feel like a win. SkolNation is in Mourning today for sure.
reply
I know what would make you feel better after the unfortunate Cousins injury, why don't you trade Hunter to the 49ers for a couple sweet draft picks.
reply
absolutely not. i'm firmly on team #payDanielle i keep saying to people, those draft picks that you get for him you hope will turn out to be even 50% of the player he is. pay the man his money, lock him up in purple for his career let him retire a viking and enjoy having the best edge rusher in the game (people may come at me with bosa, garret, watt... but i'll be in danielle "the real deal" hunters corner always.)
reply
I think you have purple haze coloured glasses on. He is great and is going to look wonderful in red and gold starting tomorrow but best edge rusher in the game, let's turn it down from 11 to about 8.
reply
haha yeah, i wake up every day to purple rain, add purple food colouring to my cereal. drink nothing but purple koolaid.
best in the game might be a stretch but hes top 5 and he aint #5
but yeah the problem with trading away an asset like danielle is you hope you hit on the replacement, why take that gamble, just pay the guy still firmly in his prime.
reply
i liked winning time. it takes place before my time, so i didn't notice any of the liberties. honestly my only problem was making stepbrothers jokes in my head whenever john c riley was talking. i was sorry to hear it didn't get picked up for a 3rd season
