The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O. is a very entertaining, interesting, and funny read from Neal Stephenson. REAMDE is a similar feel also from him. I love many of his earlier more profound books, and hate some others, but these are just fun reading.

I think entertainment is the goal. I used to watch a lot of movies and there is a great feeling after watching an engaging narrative. Definitely does not have to be flowers and sunshine though!
