Hello friends!
Stoked to join the SN crew, but I've run into a couple of roadblocks early on--hope someone here can help:
Problem #1) I've tried on 3 different browsers on my laptop, plus my phone, to create a bio on my profile. But every place I try, I get this error:
"Application error: a client-side exception has occurred (see the browser console for more information)."
Problem #2) I downloaded the SN app and am trying to log into it, but when I "Request magic link" via my email, the email I receive only lets me open my account via mobile browser (even if I have the SN app open & active); I can't find any way to finish the login via the app, it just stays stuck on the "A signin link has been sent to your email" screen.
Help would be greatly appreciated! Ready to send my first sats to whoever can assist 👊❤️⚡️
@k00b and @ekzyis will provide answers.

What browsers and os on your laptop?
reply
I tried on Brave, Chrome, and Safari (via twitter login) on my laptop, and Brave on mobile. All 4 gave the identical error. I'm on Android mobile and Mac laptop if that helps.

Welcome aboard!

Never mind I get the error too. I’ll push a fix shortly

Awesome, appreciate the fast response 🙏

Deploying a fix now. I'll chime in when it's live.

Okay, you should be good to create a bio now.
Sorry for the trouble! The release I pushed today changed some fundamental stuff and I overlooked bios during my testing.

My timing is impeccable!
Just filled it in and worked flawlessly. Appreciate you sir, cheers from Colombia 🇨🇴🍻

If you're on iOS, I am afraid it's not possible to login via email with the PWA since iOS doesn't allow to open a PWA from your mail client ... or something like that was the problem iirc
But I think we had the idea floating around that we could move from a link you need to open in the correct browser to a login code you can enter in the browser / PWA. Then it should work.

I'm on Android

Hello, @benwehrman!
I just found this post and by reading [Problem #2] it seems you are using the unofficial Stacker News client for Android that I developed. For now, it's just an alternative client I've been working on my spare time but development has slowed down recently. I'll keep fixing bugs and adding features but I do not recommend it for new users unless you are ok dealing with bugs (and reporting them too if you have the time! That would be much appreciated :).

I love playing with early builds and helping with feedback! Sign me up.
But first I need to be able to log in 🤣🤣

🤣🤣🤣
Okay, then! Now you are officially part of the alpha team, @benwehrman!
I created a new issue about this problem. Do you have an account on Github? Can you provide more details (like android version, device, etc) there, please?
reply
not on github, is that a requirement?
android is galaxy s10e

Just if you want to create issues.
I'm implementing a workaround to allow people with devices on Android 12+ to login by pasting the magic link and clicking a button. It's not ideal but it should work for now.
I'm also working on a much better way of signing in by reading a qrcode but it's going to take awhile to implement.

Awesome, LMK when the magic link field is ready to roll. Excited to be a test dummy!

Just published it on Google Play. It's still being processed and should be available in a couple hours.
I also publish the APKs on GitHub. You can install it a package manager for Android like AppManager or equivalent

I just edited the app's page on Google Play to add unofficial to the title to avoid confusion. I should have done it sooner.
The change is still being processed by Google. It might available in a couple hours.
