We have a local arthouse movie theatre in my neighborhood and I've been asked to host Money Movie Night once a week; So I've got to get a list together.

What are your favorite movies with any kind of a plot that involves money somehow.

An example might be the Christmas classic "It's a Wonderful LIfe". Why? Main character is a community banker. A bank run is depicted. One major theme is low time preference.

Any movie that might spark a thought or conversation about money would make the list.

There is also a famous bank run scene in Mary Poppins

The children's father and grandfather both work at a bank, and one of the themes of the film is freedom & simplicity versus fiat, exemplified by Mary Poppins encouraging the children to use their tuppence to feed the birds, whereas their paternal line wants them to become productive capitalists through investment and lines of credit

I don't think anyone suggested this one but I find it a really cool concept: "In Time" Dystopic future Sci-Fi where the money is "different". It's such an amazing metaphor of a movie. Unsure if that's the intended genre, but I'm a sucker for Sci-Fi.

Yes! This is the kind of thing that makes people think about value and finite resources. I'm curious to go back to movies like this and see if there are real messages about money in them; positive or negative. How have our ideas about money and value been shaped by the movies?
