Something a bit different today. As bitcoiners, I think it is important that we highlight the people, organizations and projects that are trying to bring about Bitcoin awareness and adoption. So, I want to do my part and give some attention to the Perth Heat, aka the Bitcoin baseball team.
The Perth Heat is a professional baseball team in Australia. They participate in the 6 team Australian Baseball league and are the most successful team in the league having won 15 claxton shields (their version of the world series) since the inception of the league in 1989. Their season begins tomorrow and consists of 10 rounds (one per week) of 3 or 4 games series against the same opponent. Once the regular season is complete there are two playoff rounds where the top 4 teams meet in a semifinal best of 3 series and then top 2 in a final best of the 3 series. The Heat have a development agreement with the Tampa Bay Rays of MLB, who send some of their prospects to play with the team. Last year, Rays top prospect Junior Caminero was the Heat's best hitter. After playing with the Heat last winter and starting the season at triple A, he was called up to the Rays to make his MLB debut late in the season and even played for the Rays in the wildcard series. Pretty cool.
Heading into the 2021 season the Heat announced they would be the first pro team to operate on a Bitcoin standard (yikes on the market timing but credit to them for sticking with it). You can read more about their bitcoin integration here https://perthheat.com.au/bitcoin/
They also have a unique fan engagement program called Sats4Stats where each player has a QR code that fans can scan in stadium, on social media or while streaming to tip players sats over lightning for great play. It doesn't look like they have posted the QR codes for this year's team yet. I am hoping they are will be running the program again as I would like to highlight some of the QR codes throughout the season. You can learn more about Sats4Stats from last season here https://perthheat.com.au/sats4stats/.
The time difference makes it challenging for me to watch most of the Heat's games but I did manage to watch portions of a few games last year. It is high quality baseball. They are 13 hours ahead of est so most of their games are starting either at 2am or 5am est with a couple of variances. They do have a few games that will start earlier, with the earliest being 10:30pm est. I hope to be able to catch some of those games. You can stream their games here https://plus.baseball.com.au/en-int/page/home if you are inclined.
I think what I am going to do is move the weekly Sunday poll question to Saturday and make the Sunday post a recap of the Heat's weekly series and if they do offer QR codes for tipping this season I will chose a player of the game for each game and post their QR code for those inclined to zap.
I hope you all found this post useful and will join me in supporting the Bitcoin baseball team- the Perth Heat- this season.
Sats for all.
Cheers, GR
Excellent post. I hope this gets attention beyond the usual sports/gambling SN crowd. I definitely plan on showing my support with sats. I like the idea that the Australian League can leverage the hemisphere switch to a mutual benefit with MLB. Maybe this will expand in the future.

I am sure some players would prefer to spend 3 months in Australia v.s 3 months of Winter Ball getting spit on in Mexico. Apparently winter ball fans are pretty wild.
