I just got 4 payments routed through 4 different channels (peers). Each payment goes to "pending HTLC" and right after that peer nodes goes in "offline" mode.
Don't tell me this is a coincidence that 4 peers goes offline in the same time the HTLC is pending.
I tried to add the peers again (some of them even using clearnet URI) and there's no way to add them as peers again, showing as disconnected.
I have no explanation for this behavior in LN. Please explain.
I have been noticing this a lot lately. I need to babysit my node and manually disconnect and reconnect peers that LND thinks are offline but are really actually still online to resolve pending HTLCs before they expire and the channel is force closed. This is really annoying when it happens while I'm sleeping and I wake up to a force closed channel.
It's not my connection either. I have a solid internet connection with clearnet IPv4, IPv6 and Tor. Most of my peers are also clearnet.
I really hope this issue is resolved soon.

This is odd behavior. It may be implementation issues.

In the last 6 days, from 55 channels I have now only 33, all the rest force closed. All from nodes that had almost same behavior: HTLC in pending, channel appear offline, then in short time force close is triggered.
In these conditions, LN is non-usable.

What probably happened:
  1. Your node received an HTLC
  2. Somehow, the link f'ed up and you can't connect.
  3. HTLC settled.
  4. Peer force closes because you are gone.
  5. You may have lost funds about the size of those HTLCs.

I know, I am not opening anymore channels. Let's see with how many channels will remain in the end. This is ridiculous. I had hand picked peers, I was very careful to choose them, to be good. But seems that in the end it doesn't depend only to have good direct peers but also next level of peers to be good. Or who knows. LN is going wild these days.

May be worth asking for support in the Umbrel community or something. I think I can help tomorrow.
reply
No, this is not Umbrel related, is more LND/CLN.
reply
i checked their Github and LND seems aware anout the bugs

I might be able to quickly look at it.. can we do this on Telegram or your IM platform of choice?
reply
You probably need to check the debug log and continue from there.

Is it your node that has bad internet then?
reply
Nope, my node works perfectly and I have other peers online, nicely.
