The Perth Heat have completed their first series (known as rounds) of the ABL season, coming away with a 2-2 split with the Melbourne Aces.
Things were looking good for the Heat as they scored a 4-0 victory in the first game of the season Friday. Then on Saturday they split a double header with the Aces winning the first game 6-1 before losing the second game 6-0. This set up the rubber match Sunday. but unfortunately the Heat gave up 3 runs late in the game and fell 7-4.
Their 2-2 record places them tied for 3rd with the Aces in the early ABL standings.
Some standout players from this weekend.
Friday- SP Tyler Beardsley gets the W, pitching 6 shutout innings. 2B Odalys Peguero had 3 hits, a walk and a run scored.
Saturday Game 1- SP Kobe Foster gets the W, pitching 5 innings giving up only 1 run. C Raudelis Martinez had 2 hits, a walk and 2 runs scored and RF Nehomar Ochoa had 2 hits, a run scored and 2 runs batted in.
Saturday Game 2- 3B James Smibert had a double in two at bats.
Sunday- LF Liam Collins hit the first Heat homerun of the season.
I have not seen QR codes for this year's roster so I reached out to Patrick the Chief Bitcoin Officer by email to ask if they will be running that program again this season.
Go Heat!
Cheers, GR
i signed up for their "affiliate membership" last night, but there was no bitcoin payment option. kinda disappointing. i'm not buying any merch until i can do it with sats

Goff trying to make it interesting for you this week but D just came up with a huge fumble recovery.
reply
huge indeed. definitely not the start we were hoping for though, especially running them in the pool this week

I found out about them in the offseason and followed them but haven't seen much of anything, hopefully that changes now that their season is in swing

Would be cool to see their games streaming on zap.stream.
When a player scores a goal or makes a great play, zap em

All of their games were streamable last year but the ABL has some arrangement with this Baseball Plus app this year and they only feature certain games. I think they have a Heat game on next weekend.
Good idea though.

Perth Heat merch as a Christmas gift idea? I'm checking it out.

I was going to buy their Bitcoin hat last year but the logo is just screen printed on the hat so I didn't bother.
reply
Yeah. I just looked. The merch doesn't look great, and there doesn't appear to be a pay with bitcoin option. I think we need to contact the team.
reply
They had a bitcoin payment option last year because that is how I was going to pay but I wasn't happy with the quality and the shipping made it more expensive than I wanted to pay for a hat I was essentially buying just out of support. When the CBO gets back to me I will ask him about the Bitcoin payment option as well.
Honestly, I don't know how well this league is doing. They had 8 teams last year and played 40 games, now they have 6 teams and it looks like they are playing 32 (unless I am missing some doubleheaders). Last year all the games were streamable but this year only select games across the league are available on the baseball plus app (which I downloaded to try and watch the game Saturday as it started earlier due to the double header- but some other ABL game was on). Also the Heat used to have a good presence on twitter but they haven't tweeted out anything since early Oct when they were doing Spring Training. I thought I could get game updates by following their twitter, as I did last year but nope. That is also where they posted all the QR codes for fans to zap.
Looks like the Heat need the bull market to kick into gear. Haha.

I'm looking forward to hearing what you learn. Maybe SN future sports sub should buy a team?

I think I mentioned before but I have l always wanted to buy a minor league baseball team.

Did you watch The Saint Of Second Chances on Netflix? Great minor league baseball stuff. Its about Bill Veeck and his son. I highly recommend it.

I have not but I will check it out.

It was looking dire for a moment there but Goff redeemed himself in the end. I was busy with the kiddos visiting my parents at the time but caught the last couple mins and barely resisted the urge to log on and reply he's aliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive to your last comment. Very exciting finish. Sorry, not sorry, that the 49ers didn't help you out.
