Good morning stackers!
So this dropped a couple of days ago (maybe a week ish) and I thought it was a brilliant collaboration between two fairly unknown artists (by mainstream standards). These guys use traditional techniques and instruments to keep their culture alive and well.
So shill me your new and different music this Monday and let's have some fun!

Dropped 4 weeks ago! That's wicked, somewhere around the 1.30ish mark, I really got that 90s grunge feel but updated. This is a really interesting mix of genres, the way they use what I think is grunge influence + great bassline is super interesting. I like the raw ripped back sections with the bassline + piano. That's one of those tracks where you close your eyes and just get transported somewhere else. Thank you @Lux hell of a track.

Not new, but perhaps new to someone else. I think that's what I find the most fun about music is looking backwards in time to find unique or new music to me, not just stuff being freshly released.
Morphine - Cure for Pain Band featuring a lead sax instead of guitar, I was blown away when I first heard it years and years ago. Definitely unique.

I liked that. New to me is good, I don't mind new to me. I don't care if it was released 6minutes ago if it's good and new to me or to someone else than that's why we do this thread. And don't you panic, like I said to GR, there's going to be a great December theme that'll be more towards your collection.
I enjoyed the sax a lot, don't get me wrong I love good guitarists but a guitar solo is kinda the done thing. A sax solo is great, band I saw in my teens called Turisas had a violinist that did the solos instead of their guitarist and it was excellent.

New and different? Making things difficult for me. You know my wheelhouse is old and the same.
I will give you an indie Canadian artist that is getting some attention recently. I don't know much about them but they describe them as garage/psych music. Whatever that is supposed to be. Anyways the single is pretty good.

Maybe it's the accent but the vocalist is making me think of (a relatively unknown artist) royal lynn. And the indie rock vibes in the back make me think of royal republic. It's a fun combination. Cheers GR. And don't worry I have a theme for December your gunna feel right at home with 😜.

This one is new! And oh boy it's good organized chaos! Love chaotic things and this song hit a sweet spot bridging chaos and classic metal core, very well executed.
reply
It is very classic metalcore, got those big breakdowns. Utter chaos, some of the drumming brings Joey jordison to my mind. That last break down is filthy. Pure unadulterated filthy breakdown.

Not a new song this month, however the video is. I don't know why, it just hits me every time I watch it. Simple and cleanly executed.

This was a very different track to your other suggestion 🤣 this has got that really nice chill vibe to it. Why is she crying? What happened one minute snow man with her dad next minute walking streets crying! I have to know, is she ok? That was a proper nice track. Like you said, simple and cleanly executed, as was the video, it was very well timed in, she fell over and hit the ground at the exact moment of the beat dropping, it's the little things like that attention to detail I really appreciate when videos tie in correctly with the music.

Plus, if you're some one like me who have listened to the Lofi Girl radio quite frequently the past years, seeing this character come to life and have a story is just something else.
I guess they're going to explore her universe and back story now, and if it's going to be equally well executed - I am so on board!
And yes, it's very different hehe. I do, as you seem to do too, enjoy a great variety of genres.
reply
You can say that again. Eclectic it could be described as.
It might be nice to go back and check that out, just so I'm all caught up and see what they do in the future with her story.

I stumbled across a couple bands called wardruna & Heilung a little while back. They use traditional techniques and instruments to make really ancient sounding music. Their talent is astounding, even if what they produce isn't to everyone's taste, it's very niche but props to the musicians for doing what they want and not just some cookie cutter over produced formula track we are bombarded by these days. I love this weekly thread I get to find so much interesting stuff to listen to and enjoy.
I do think demon kitty rag is going to be stuck in my brain for the rest of the day for sure 🤣🤣 that was a weird but wicked listen. Which is exactly my kinda thing. Weird but wicked.

Me neither, not a clue. But I'm invested and I want more.

Great track, thanks.
Interesting selection of instruments! Not often that you see a Jew's harp in this kind of music. Or any kind, really.
The polar opposite, both in terms of "new" and genre, but listen to the Jew's harp in this classic:

I think I've come across Leonard Cohen before but I can't be sure. It does sound familiar. But I hear what you're saying about that jews harp. It's such an interesting instrument and can sound really stupid it misused. But it really adds to this track. I tell ya, when I woke up today I never thought I'd be discussing a jews harp 🤣

Part of what I love about music: it can take you anywhere. 🤣
