Good, I haven't use a google account in years... and will never use anymore. Own domain, own hosting, own email. Email is dying slowly anyways.
Aye, I used G account for a tiny amount of time before quickly degoogling and installing a custom OS - similar to my move in the noughties with desktops to Gnu Linux. I'm sure the tale is similar for most users who prefer tech sovereignty here.
However, Stackers' family members are usually more conventional, and less tech-savvy. That's why it's a heads-up for Stackers' family at Thanksgiving rather than Stackers.
I had a big scare for over a year thinking a forgetful family member had accidentally 'donated' our entire family photos to a thrift store. For this last year I've been both pining for the lost photos and dreading bringing the subject up. Thankfully they did turned up just a few weeks ago in my relative's drawer - I hadn't wished to broach the subject for fear of them dying of regret...
So, it was a happy ending for me, but having the knowledge of when generations of family memories are lost, they're well-and-truly lost. I had backed everything up digitally in triplicate (and Gimped them all) but you can't beat the dog-eared and physical originals.
Also, as digital archivists will attest, digital copies can't last forever whilst hardcopies thankfully really stick around. 😁
