Currently there are 4 subs to pick when publishing a post. Do you think there should be more options? For example: Politics, Sports or maybe Food related categories?

You’re new here. User created subs are coming Hi, yes i am new and happy to meet you :)

I'm for user created subs!

To not have a thousand of them it could be made to be handled as a proposal and other people vote the one they like.
Another case could be to have them as a zap based ordering to ensure the one that are truly interesting goes first.
reply
Why not have thousands of them? Just have the creators pay for it
reply
I think it should depend on the sub and the content, when it's any good and is a good read for the community...
reply
It doesn't matter if it's a good or bad read because it's for whomever and their audience. The very purpose of substackz is to allow for more niche topicality.

My second idea was with that case in mind.
Hundred or even a thousand of subs are fine, but there must be some kind of deduplication system or we'll be flooded with duplicated subs after a while.
Some kind of approval / ranking system should be in place for it to work, be it by votes, comments, zaps or whatever, maybe including a report system if they are entirely user generated.

Sorry, I haven't understood what you mean, can you expand a bit more?
Sending Bitcoin is the only approval necessary aside from flagging mechanism for abusive content

A post could face several stackz at the same time by the same author, but otherwise I don't see a problem with the same thing posted independently in separate stackz by different people.

We could maybe start a collection of different subs which are interesting to present to the Admins of Stacker.News: I think "Entertainment","Politics" and maybe some kind of "Marketplace"? What do you think?
reply
A Marketplace would be interesting, there's already a "Jobs" sub after all.
reply
A Marketplace would be interesting, there's already a "Jobs" sub after all. Exactly, also Stacker.News could maybe start to earn fees on sold items on the marketplace
reply
That's right, it could potentially be integrated with a Nostr marketplace too.
reply
That's right, it could potentially be integrated with a Nostr marketplace too. I think that's interesting as there might be some people selling used miners or building tech in generell and are happy for a marketplace
reply
Not only that, there's lot of artists, writers, photographers and many other independent creators that can sell their content freely.
You must be new or somehow missed the 143 day long mutiny that is occurring in Meta. Either way, welcome to the resistance, we will prevail.
reply
Still waiting to see further ideas on possible subs to pic haha
reply
Sometimes It's hard to think where to put something, with Meta as a fallback.

I voted none because I feel that people will be prompted to look at other posts within one of these four overarching themes. If we define the topic too finely, I fear that a lot of posts on the less popular subs will get missed out. My 2 sats’ worth

My 2 sats’ worth I get your point, but adding more subs would also adress new Stackers who are maybe not as techy, mety or whatever yet.

Yes. Many people think it would spread out user attention and activity - I don't think that's true, I think it would induce more user attention and interaction.
reply
But maybe this happens with user generated subs? That might be thousands in the end...
