Expecting everyone to work for free is not reasonable. There must be a mix. Direct profit drives invention. Article ignores the time cost of removing incentives.
No one writes software for free, ever. The more software you write, the greater your experience. The greater your portfolio. The greater you can solve difficult problems. This is the highest paying currency in the job market. You are getting paid every second that you put in, in exchange for your time.

Parts of this is very true and parts are very fantasy.

FOSS doesn’t mean you’re working for free. The challenging part is monetizing FOSS projects. But it does happen.

Sure, but challenging = time cost. I want direct incentives to entice more entrepreneurs, so I won’t demand FOSS. I’m a FOSS supporter and user.

Bitcoin allows for a lot more self directed unknowable value creation, which I think ends up creating more innovation, even without upfront financial incentives (I think that "direct profit drives ~innovation" market will get very efficient and so there will be extra time for many personal projects. You can't tell If a new thing will be profitable/valuable so if your betting time or money, it's similar, just becomes more directed by the talent... Still for now, best to give a lot of value for value, FOSS donations, use and even I think paid use🤪 .. For example buy Purism products etc.
