The best thing about last night's MNF game was the fact that it ended. How does one team get 4 interceptions and not manage to score a TD and the other team recover two fumbles, not give up a touchdown and still manage to lose. All kinds of bad.
Onto better things. We have our second weekly pick 'em repeat champ of the year. @BTC_Bellzer secured the victory with the tiebreaker, which no one was anywhere close to, but a win is a win. Is a three-peat coming of will someone else take the title back?
Apparently, including the national championship, there are 43 bowl games this year. That seems like more than I want to keep track of, so whatever we do in terms of a contest for bowl games it definitely will not include all bowl games. Please share ideas if you have them. Might just end up being a 5 bowl pick 'em or something simple but if a better idea comes up I am open to it as long as it doesn't involve me tracking 10 people's picks for 43 games. Haha.
NBA in-season tournament is inching closer to the playoffs. After tonight the field drops down to 8 teams and the fun really begins. Looks like my strategy of saving teams like the Nuggets, Warriors, 76ers did not pan out too well. Hopefully I still have teams to pick by the finals.
NFL Survivor pool week 13 post will be up shortly for our two remaining survivors. I don't think either has an easy path this week so it will be interesting to see what happens.
Sats for all.
Cheers, GR
Boston or New York losing tonight would each eliminate someone from the pool.
Of the teams that are still alive and might make the playoffs, I still have several available: Indiana Cleveland Atlanta is still alive somehow Milwaukee Charlotte is still alive somehow Orlando Brooklyn New Orleans Houston Sacramento Golden State Minnesota
I can't say I'm super excited about that set of teams, but I only need three.

I think the first playoff round will be pretty easy to find a team to pick. It will semifinals an finals are a different story.

Depending on what the seeding looks like, there might not be any great choices. As long as Boston wins today, we only have to go two for three in the playoffs.
I kind of wish I had made one strike part of the tiebreaker scenario, but it didn't occur to me at the time.

Next year maybe the double elimination should only apply in the preliminary round and have some sort of cost. 1k sats to get back in. Then in playoffs it is single elimination.
reply
Those are good ideas. I wasn't really expecting us to even make it to the playoffs. I think it will get pretty interesting as the field narrows.

Looks like the Celtics really want that playoff spot. Leading the Bulls by 30 with 4 minutes left. If the Nets beat the Raps and Celtics keep up the point differential, they will win the group.
reply
Yes, I underestimated the Celtics desire to make the playoffs and it appears I overestimated the Raps ability to make layups.
reply
Your lazy analysis has screwed us for the last time.

I look forward to the Celtics defeat in the quarterfinals. I have no idea who they play but I am cheering for whoever it is.
Not sure if I should be cheering for Warriors to win by 12 or not. I haven't used either Warriors or Kings but do I really want to rely on the Kings in a playoff situation.
reply
Do you want to rely on Draymond not punching someone in the nuts and getting ejected?

LOL
And looks like the Knicks will be the East wild card, with 3-1 and +42 points differential. So I've officially burned 3 playoff teams from the east, Bucks, Celtics, and Knicks, while rocking 1 strike. Yay! Or is the wildcard not conference oriented and calculated based on all teams?
reply
It was a close game until the Raps missed about 5 layups in a row. Not exactly lay ups but shots within a few feet of the basket.
I guess you are taking the Pacers.

I preface my remaining picking strategy by listing the playoff teams I've already picked: Bucks, Knicks, Celtics, Suns. Basically half of the playoff teams...
I don't think Pacers vs Celtics is a good matchup for Pacers. Haliburton probably gets shut down by Holiday, and they don't really have an answer for Prozingis. And then there is still Tatum and Brown to deal with. Celtics just have too much talent and scoring for Pacers to handle, plus the Celtics can and do actually play defense. But then again, I don't have a choice, do I?
Maybe I will attempt to prolong my inevitable demise by just a little bit and pick the Pels or Kings, as I really don't think Pacers can beat the Celtics. But then again, I could be wrong, and I had been wrong numerous times... This pick is hard.

I already have my favorite until the end
