The title really should say something more like "Figma and Adobe proposed-merger blocked by government". The incompatibility is entirely a matter of regulations created by some US agency.
But Figma won't say that, because they don't want to anger the Beast. Like all startups, they're primary goal is to get acquired by another company. Figma will begin searching for another company, and they want the Beast to treat them no worse than this time.

For some reason I believe it wouldn't work as Adobe always want to enforce price and propriety on creative assets while Figma operates from a free open source perspective

In this case, what each company wanted was irrelevant. It was the government alone that prevented the merger.

Fifteen months into the regulatory review process.
15 months is exactly how long ago I assumed this had happened.

Lol honestly this is not surprising, but I think it's a good thing. It felt like figma was going to turn to shit if this acquisition went through.

i use figma on a daily basis since i'm a UX designer and i'm honestly glad this merger ain't happening! adobe has been getting shittier and shittier over the years

Not a Figma user yet. No longer an Adobe user. TBH, Figma could do a lot better than being acquired by Adobe.
