Fountain 1.0 Has Arrived!
Our biggest design and user experience upgrade to date brings usability improvements across the app along with powerful new social features.
Today we’re excited to launch a brand new look for the Fountain mobile app. We’ve spent the last few months listening to your feedback to get a deep understanding of the improvements you would like to see.
We hope you will agree that the resulting design and user experience upgrades we have made across the app make Fountain look and feel great to use. Along with the stylish new user interface, we’ve also added some powerful new social features to help you discover more great podcasts and join in the conversation with other listeners.
LIBRARY
- Customise your library view for quick access to episodes, shows and your queue
- New content cards that bring improved readability with larger artwork and fonts
- New filter for ‘continue listening’ to see episodes you haven’t finished
- New search feature to quickly find anything in your library
- Swipe to remove an episode from your library
PLAYER
- Background image blur that transforms based on the episode you’re listening to
- Scroll or tap the icons at the bottom of the screen to view the show notes, read the comments, access chapters and follow along with the transcript
- Sats counter that displays the total value that you have sent while listening to the episode
- Improved sleep timer that gives you an “end of episode” option
BOOSTING AND STREAMING SATS
We have updated the design of the boost and stream menus to make them easier to use. We now display the dollar value of the sats you’re sending, with more currency options to be added in the future.
CLIP EDITOR
Clips have always been a big part of Fountain as we believe it’s a great way of hearing the best moments from podcasts without having to listen to the whole episode. But let’s face it - making clips could have been easier. The new clip editor makes it quicker and easier to make perfect clips.
- The circular design of the new clip editor gives you greater accuracy and control over the start and end position
- The audio transcript serves as a reference to let you know exactly where you are
CLIP PLAYER
Exploring clips also wasn’t a great experience, so we’ve built a completely new clip player that allows you to scroll through a stream of clips.
- The new “stories” browser at the top of the home feed shows you the latest clips from people you follow as well as any clips that they have interacted with recently
- Tap through to the episode, user profile and any hashtags related to that clip
HOME FEED
One thing we listening to your feedback was that while Fountain’s sense of community is unique, we could do a better job of surfacing conversations that are happening on the app and making it easier to join them. As well as introducing the new “stories” browser to the top of the home feed, we’ve completely redesigned the home feed to make it less cluttered and easier to browse.
- See podcasts, music, clips and playlist activity from accounts you follow
- View replies and tap through to read the full conversation
- Check the stats for every post and see who liked it and who replied to it
PLAYLISTS
We’ve made some big changes to our playlists feature so that you can add different types of content to your collections. Every Fountain user can create up to three playlists for free but you will be required to upgrade to Fountain Premium in order to create more.
- Add your favourite episodes, tracks and clips to playlists
- Earn sats for the playlists you create when other listeners like them
- Added comment functionality for playlists
CONNECT STRIKE
We have partnered with Strike so that you can top up your Fountain wallet instantly using your preferred currency. Once you have connected your Strike account from your Fountain wallet, you can deposit funds from your Strike account without ever leaving the Fountain app.
FEEDBACK
Although we've launched Fountain 1.0 I know we still have an incredible amount of work to make Fountain the best podcast listening experience it can be.

Really nice but I would prefer is my latest episodes were at the top in Library and all the other categories I can select from underneath.
we've had this feedback during beta - we're going to add a way to customise the top section so if you want you can have all of them behind a menu

Are you looking to implement music streaming on your platform in the future? I'd love to be able to listen to not just podcasts but music and audio books on fountain.
Side note, consistency of earnings needs to be addressed, I understand that being randomly assigned 0 sats/min is a possibility... But consecutive days? I'd be lucky if I earnt anything 1-2 days in a month long span. I believe this is due to "IP Hopping" as I'll be using fountain at home, then on the go, then at work and the app seems to get upset with me when I'm using multiple networks. Let alone VPNs which I'll hop routinely aswell. Perhaps there's a different way of identifying the "only one device per account" policy as I think it's pretty common for people to be masking their online presence with VPNs or Network Hopping. It is one device, just multiple networks.

Edit I've just seen that music has been added, I hadn't updated (it should have been on auto update but it wasn't my mistake). Is it planned to have it synced via Spotify similar to how the podcast library was set up? As I can't seem to find certain things in Music currently.

on the earnings - we've changed the rewards system now so you have a higher chance of earning each day but might earn less.

I guess I'll need to wait for the music library to be fleshed out a little more. I was unable to get results for things like "Metallica" or "iron maiden" but I understand this is a new feature and it'll take time to pack out the library.
So all this while, Fountain hasn't reached version 1.0. Imagine what's up ahead

Currently the music top 100 can't be interacted with. Some of the other sections have a see all button aside from the music top 100. Just a heads up, I know this feature is new but it doesn't seem to be working properly 👍

I've given the Fountain podcast app a try a few times (including the 1.0 new release) and there are still a few things that hold me back from switching over. My current podcast app of choice is AntennaPod and I run GrapheneOS for what it's worth.
It's a great player otherwise. Maybe someone will find the feedback helpful.

very sorry for the issues in previous versions - alongside all the design / ux updates and new features Fountain 1.0 also has a large number of performance improvements that fix both the crashing and occasional freezing.

I'd like an option to adjust the default font size.
Am I crazy, or is the player now skipping dead air? I don't see an option for it, but it seems like the player is jumping forward through silence.
I noticed this too. It seems to eliminate silence by default with no option to turn it off.

I'm having the same problem. All silence seems to be skipped over. Very odd to listen to! I'm using Fountain 1.0 on GrapheneOS so maybe it's due to lack of GSF?
Other than that it's a great app and this version UX is a good improvement from a small, underfunded team.

Congrats on getting this out, I’ve been patiently waiting for the release.
Not sure if anyone else has experienced the following issues after updating:
-Queued Episode list being cleared -Dowloaded Episodes being cleared -Starred Episodes being cleared -Episode list being cleared -Followed Shows being cleared -All clips being cleared, including My Clips
Actually the only thing that carried over to 1.0 was my Filter Tags, Settings and Wallet history. Everything Library related has been cleared. Strange thing is downloaded items are still taking up storage space, but do not show in app. This happened one time before in previous update, 0.7.0 if I recall correctly. Currently the app is unusable and it should really be resolved in a bug fix update. Otherwise will have to completely uninstall and start over.
What's your Fountain username? I can check this for you

go to the show page and hit the following button to unfollow a show and remove it from your library
Is fountain still going to have promoted episodes that give sats rewards? Haven't noticed any promoted shows since the update.
Wish I can pay for the "Fountain Premium" with sats.
This is great but I cannot import my Google podcast opml file. So I'm sticking with player.fm for now.

I have trouble claiming my podcast as my rss doesn't seem to have an email associated with it?
I noticed about a few weeks ago that I was no longer earning sats. Upon investigation I found out that now it only happens "sometimes". That sometimes never happened again. Especially after I get a notification that this weekend is double.
2 times 0 is zero.
Now I've spent over 150k sats supporting my favorite podcast. And I've earned 58k since Fountain started. I've also been a premium member for the last year.
Stopping the sats earning just pisses me off and sending notifications that double earning is available is salty as f123! Especially when I paid to support Fountain. You see I can see the distribution of streaming and support and fountain gets a good chunk of that, too.
So I've deleted my data, cancelled my subscription and uninstalled Fountain.
I hope you will keep your other users by fixing this and I also hope that your help or contact menus improve because I would have used them but they are at best an FAQ.
I'll be supporting and using Breeze or maybe another podcast 2.0 competitor.

The new Fountain 1.0 update sounds fantastic! I'm especially excited about the custom library view and the 'continue listening' filter, which will make it so much easier to keep track of my podcasts. The background image blur in the player is a cool aesthetic touch too. Can't wait to try out the new social features and connect with other podcast enthusiasts. Great job on continuously improving and listening to user feedback!
