Ray Davies of the Kinks touched on the same theme, though in their case the song's protagonist is not a sympathetic figure; however it did tap into the general mood of the time of taxation being too high yet at the same time the song reminds us money doesn't buy happiness (but as we all know, neither does poverty!)...
