Besides some rad hackery-newsy community that uses crypto to incentivize posts, comments, and interaction -- what neat places have you personally seen bitcoin adoption happening in the real world beyond hodling and speculation/investment? Where have you seen bitcoin transactions enable interesting systems and functionality, personally or second/third-hand?
Global remittances? Your local coffeeshop? Esoteric networked numerological divination rituals? Useful financial derivatives?
  • DLCs which enable derivatives and betting
    • Sured Bits seems to be leading the way here
    • I placed a bet on Bitcoin price and lost
  • Betting and escrow systems
  • decentralized sybil resistant chat systems

Ok will tell you my real life story/experience with BTC.
Some years ago I lived in a big city and I just started with BTC. Then I had a small grocery shop just at my building apartment entrance. A nice pakistani guy running that shop. So one day I convince him to start taking my BTC as payment for my groceries. Then I show him how to use BTC to feed his family in Pakistan. He could share the same BTC wallet with his wife/family, that was exchanging it for local currency and later they find a way to pay with BTC for their some expenses. In that moment the guy started seeing the potential of BTC and he always offer me a 10% discount on EVERYTHING I buy including products that he doesn't have usually in the shop. I just have to tell him "I want that" and he will bring it for me, in exchange for my BTC. I was a happy customer living on BTC for years. This is how you start a circular economy based on BTC. And this should do every bitcoiner in his neighbor, not just hodling his BTC. GET RID OF FIAT MONEY! EVERY DAY YOU USE YOUR BTC AS MONEY IS A DAY WHEN A BANKSTER DIE!

https://www.betmoose.com/ used to be fun, but looks a bit stale these days. I like the concept, and love the automated no-log-in approach.

heared some people buy a lot of different products online with it. legal and not so legal goods. buy gold from bitgild or pay vpn or paytv subsciptions for example. would also not underestimate ransomware attacks on computer systems. in the end those ransomware attacks make computers more secure somehow. in the future it also may be used to prevent spamming systems and helping sorting algos put a weight on some information. i see lightning network as the reusable original hashcash email thought. for the real world mainnet bitcoin is like a hustle to use. room77 the first bar in berlin to accept bitcoin did not have many btc payments back then. with lightning it is a total different story possible. it is cheap can be used just to send money round the globe and if changed from and to fiat rapidly there is not much risk for or interst in the sender or the reciever. it is 0day for moneyprinters. it is very liquid and the system accumulates network effect and value from day one. there was a time in greece where people could not withdraw their money. but people could still transact with sepa. so they got their money out of their banks with no hussle. many of them kept the coins there. in a perfect world you would need no btc. in our world it fixes some things. maybe it is not always visible what btc fixes. it is a experiemnt. a large one
