I've never played but am fascinated by the game due to the amazingly high number of board variations. Has AI been able to beat the best humans yet? I know that in 1997, an IBM computer beat a chess world champion for the first time. I vaguely remember hearing that it would take awhile for a computer to beat the world's best Go player.
ah, looks like it happened in 2016 https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/computer-beats-go-champion-for-first-time/
