Here below some highlights of our first week in the bustling ~Agora territory. It's been a wild ride with exciting progress, discoveries, and challenges it brought to us. We wated to gather data and see what's is available aroud and who is accepting BTC for stuff. It's a dance we're all getting accustomed to! Here's the roundup:
A growig Agora archive
As mentioned, we collected some data from the major ads listing sites around the globe and some of them have landed on the Agora, you ca see it has been automagically populated! We are tryig things out, but ideally we wannt you to remove the dust from all those unused items you have collected (and some xmas gifts) and share them with the community here.
Character Limit Shuffle
It's 80 characters enough? The character limit in the title field has led to some creative juggling. Mostly because the introduction of few ew parameters like, quantities, optional price placement and, the most important, item localisation for physical goods ad services.
Displaying Quantity in Titles, how?
Sellers with multiple units of the same item have shown the need of adding a quantity indicator in the title, like
Nx
, where N
represents the available quantity for sale. Taking between 2 to 4 (5-10%) of the characters allowance, it's a must-have information to allow visitors and stackers get it clearly without clicking in.Price Placement Options
Although removing the previously introduced price as a tag, it's a good practice to include it in the title when possible, ideally at the beginning after the post type
[TYPE]
or at the end before the location (Location/STATE-COUNTRY)
.Standardizing Location Tags ... what a job!
As you can see, we're witnessing the evolution of number and tag types, trying to make the listing information as much accessible as possible from the title itself. The hook that is able to engage with curious visitors and provide enough information to trigger a click from any interested buyers scrolling by.
We are currently exploring ways to standardise localisation, such as specifying city/state/country with a unified tags. For example,
(New York/NY)
for USA locations or (Prague/CZ)
, (Bangkok,TH) for international ones. Most readers are from the US anyway, so adding a USA everywhere could be annoying. Your input on this is always appreciated and much valuable – any suggestions?Seller Communication Reminder!
We aim to maintain a respectful ad honest marketplace, but intruders, spammers and scammers could be hiding always behind that corner. Shall we invite sellers to write something on each listing to protect them from unsolicited noise and distractions? Noticed Craiglist (our curret main source of dip and inspiration) always add "Do NOT contact this poster with unsolicited services or offers." at the end of all listings... None of us is a lawyer so not sure there's some implications on this whole thing!
And last, but not least:
