No, you didn’t read the title wrong. I meant it as a personal finance musing.
My reflection began when I read this Japanese finance management book. In essence, 100 Japanese homemakers share one tip each about how they scrimp and save their household income to achieve a pretty impressive of $100k. Which immediately galvanised my attention because Japan isn’t doing the best economically and salaries are on the low side for salarymen. How then do these resourceful ladies stretch their dollar?
So I was expecting tips like visit the supermarket at night because this is when bento sets and onigiris would be sold at a discount. Or how they go shopping on particular days because they will accumulate more points on their membership cards.
But it goes deeper than that. Many a homemaker shared about the little tricks they employ to make themselves feel loved. Like using recipes to cook dishes that wouldn’t be out of place in a more fancy restaurant. Or creating the space to sip high quality coffee. To pamper themselves with small indulgences so that they don’t feel the urge to spend as much.
Never thought of self-love as a money-saving mechanism. Is this thinking new to uou? If not, what are some ways you are willing to invest money in to make yourself feel valued?
