I referred a friend to SN. Gave them my referral link with the code from my referrals page. When they clicked on the link it just went to https://stacker.news and took the code out. They even put the code back into the url and it just disappeared again. I was right there with them when they did it. I said well maybe it just knows in the system somehow. But now they have signed up and are up and running, it says on my referrral page that I have no referrals (0 referrals & 0 sats in the last month).
Is it broken or is this something that will show up later? Thanks

cookies baby! the referral link sets a cookie
Damn, yeah, that could be it. I can say, the person's laptop will almost definitely not allow cookies!
We set a cookie with the name
sn_referrerwhose value is your nym.If you inspect the cookies it's there. For example, the result of me visiting your referral link to this post, #391334:
https://m.stacker.news/12761
Thank you. So, if the person's laptop doesn't allow cookies then I guess it's not going to work? He's set his account up now, so I'm guessing it's just done it without the referral.
Yes, it requires cookies to work. We've had a few suggestions to allow manually setting a referrer or benefactor, which would be an alternative, but haven't implemented those suggestions yet.
I think, if that works better without cookies, it would be better, as I suspect a lot of people on SN probably have cookies turned off on a lot of their browsers. Thank you fro replying.
I assume that the site is capturing that referral data and then passing you to the homepage, but would look for a SN staffer to comment on this.
Is there a way of doing that?
I'm sure something went wrong. I only have a couple of referrals, but they showed up right away.
Maybe just entering a ref code with some sats rewards for the referred could be a solution for the bugs
I'm not sure what you mean
