Before I wrote the original post, I went down the synonyms rabbithole. There are some great words:

Bonus, alms, tithe...heck even calling it tribute is kinda cool. But I think most people will get distracted if I say we're bringing tribute back on the world wide web.

I like the emphasis on freely given, though. Too bad tip seems to have lost most of those connotations.
