I forget which book it was but I recall reading about the state of alcohol use in the US at the turn of the century (1900s) specifically gin because of its low cost. I've thought about how it takes humans a good while to adapt to changes like this. I suspect the Internet is like this. Gonna take several generations for us to adapt to the existence of new drugs both physical and things like the Internet. There is a balance but before we find that we go in both directions.
