There is absolutely no way I would touch anything notion. This is a complete cop out and you know that because they're shutting down all things email in 6 months. So what, it's going to be retransformed to maybe "Notion Email" ? Oh come on, who would trust that shit at all?
Skiff had a good UI on top of a "privacy preserving" email provider. So shutting down email means their entire user base is gone. So odds are this is just an acquihire to build other products inside notion, which will have some dumb illusion of privacy at best, at worse, they just have the team building other notion shit.

I agree. I wrote them a note and said I used them because they weren't like google, but now they are behaving EXACTLY like google.
reply
I wouldn't say exactly. Shutting down a privacy service because the team moved on still has a shit ton more principal than google.
reply
Maybe. Flying the "we aren't evil banner" and then giving your user base a 6 month notice sucks--especially when those same users are what is allowing you to have something to sell with which to start.

See this is why we can’t have nice things

The only reason to use email is to share instructions on how to conduct business with me on secure comms. Email can only be secured in ways I don't trust both people to get correct anyway. Use the right tools for the job.
reply
Sure, but try getting other people to use those secure comms...

Also I am always down to find a better way if anyone has suggestions. I just think email is so well known by users that its hard to simply have them modify their flow.
reply
I think a lot of it is laziness. I've had to re-learn internet tech probably millions of times at this point. The average person doesn't want to do that or understand the need for it up until something bad happens and by then it is too late.

100% a part of it. Our willingness to rip it all out and start over is likely why we are sharing this exchange. :)
Many people don't care until they have too

Resilience is one part patience, one part how many times can I build this house and have it fall down before I get somewhere that is stable...
reply
Exactly. I have instructions on specific tools to use. I have tried the same process with email and it never goes well. People have their tool chains for email. Give good instructions on a new tool chain and you set them on a path for success.

I'm trying to move all my accounts to another mailing service. So exhausting. They promoted themselves a lot then dumped userbase without caring them. I wish we can develop nostr mail client or something like that with self hosting support. 🥹🥲

Ethermail looks interesting from a web3 perspective.

Yeah but I'm planning to stick with BTC chain.
