No “papers, please!” Here, especially now with cell phones. They need a “reasonable, articulable suspicion” that you are “committing, or about to commit a crime.” If there isn’t one, then they threaten to arrest you for not showing ID, then fat lawsuit against the municipality they work for.
One is under no obligation to ID even while open-carrying a rifle or pistol. Many cops, however, don’t know the law, and got away with it. Now there are a lot of constitutional “auditors” that record encounters with police, and sue the department if their rights are violated. The police can no longer get away with lying in court when there is video evidence.
