This post is for NHL hockey fans. I'm wondering how many of us watch these outdoor games if our teams are not involved? I'm excited for the puck to drop for Isles/Rangers in a few minutes, but I didn't watch last night. Now that it's held every year, has the novelty worn off? It reminds me a little of when interleague play started in baseball. Eventually it becomes ho him.

I think the Winter Classic on New Year's Day still draws, I'll watch it every year if I'm home. I've always wanted to go to 1.
The Stadium Series has diluted the excitement a bit but I went and it was a really enjoyable atmosphere (aside from the wind and Isles fans). Diluted or not, Metlife Stadium saw like 150K-ish people over the weekend.
The Heritage Classic in Canada I have no idea but I imagine it sells out every year and will continue to forever and ever.

I think it has mostly worn off. I wouldn't go out of my way to watch a winter classic but it is still more intriguing than a random regular season game. If I was flipping through the channels and saw an outdoor game was on, I would probably watch for a bit but they definitely don't have the same hype as when they first started doing them.

I have to admit it does bring me back to being a kid and playing on a frozen pond, but that isn't a thing for most of the US.

Took the kids to visit my parents and my dad was watching the game so now I am watching it.
Saw them interviewing Barkley and DeVito from the Giants. What’s the common overlap. Would giants fans be rangers fans and jets fans be islanders fans?
I know @BTC_Bellzer is Jets and Rangers but you are Jets and Islanders. Which is more common?

This isn't scientific. I would say:
Column A. Column B
Yankees. Mets
Giants. Jets
Rangers. Islanders
Column A- Buttoned up, rich, corporate assholes
Column B- Working class drunks

Took the words right out of my mouth. I was about to post, but I was afraid I was just going to reveal that I was the cranky old bastard complaining about today's music.

This is accurate on all accounts, I'm just weird.
True to form the working class drunks were pissing in the stairwell during the 2nd intermission.

Messier- Should be given a lifetime achievement award for being the dirtiest player of his generation while never managing to drop his gloves for a fight.

Hey now. I was the proud owner of a Messier Oilers jersey as a child.

I was quite the front runner as a kid. Oilers and 49ers. Haha. Actually I was a Leafs fan but my uncle who lives in Alberta got me the Oilers jersey.

That's pretty cool. You were a 49ers fan as a kid? They had some good teams.

My dad was never a big football fan and when he did watch football it was CFL, so the 89 Super Bowl was the first NFL game I really watched as a kid. I watched it with my dad and he asked me who I was going to cheer for. I chose the 49ers and have been a fan ever since. Probably because they won. Might have selected a different team if they lost. Most people I knew growing up cheered for the Bills since they were the closest team to us.

It's interesting how geographically spread out the Bills fan base is. I was rooting for the Bills against the Giants for the Norwood Nightmare. I know NYC football fans who switched from Giants/Jets to Bills fans as being the only real NY team after the flight to New Jersey.

I even met a Bills fan in Texas a couple years back. The Bills are quite popular in southern Ontario. Around 15% of Bills season ticket holders are from Canada.
