Everyone will let you down when it comes to their personal gain. This is generally true to the point to assume otherwise is to find burn out.
I agree with being realistic in human relations but there's gotta be a middle ground of balance between trust and holding others accountable to being fair with you.

That would be the legal system's job and law enforcement. You see how well it is doing generally.
