Starting tomorrow, Stacker News is running a new rewards experiment called Million Sat Madness.
How Million Sat Madness WorksHow Million Sat Madness Works
Stacker News is giving away millions of sats to the top 64 SN contributors in March. One stacker is guaranteed a grand prize of 1 million sats + bonuses, and the rest of the top 64 are guaranteed a percentage share of another 2 million sats + bonuses.
The bonuses are funds that would otherwise be sent to the daily rewards pool. Instead of being paid each day, they will be added to the Million Sat Madness bonus pool and be paid at the end of March on top of the 3 million guaranteed sats.
To be clear, Million Sat Madness is a replacement (not a complement) to daily rewards this month.
The bonus pool is paid proportionally to your guaranteed sats, so the more you earn from guaranteed sats, the more you’ll earn from the bonus pool.

Everyone on SN can participate simply by creating and zapping great content. Tomorrow morning, the rewards page will display a leaderboard (updated hourly) of stackers in position to earn rewards as part of Million Sat Madness.
An "estimated rewards" number will also be added to the leaderboard to give stackers a better idea of the rewards for each one of the top 64 positions.
Just like with all our past rewards experiments, Million Sat Madness rewards people who bring value to Stacker News. That means:
- creating great posts and comments
- zapping great posts and comments
The rewards algorithm Stacker News uses is still the same, the only difference is that your score accumulates over the entire month of March instead of resetting each day.
This also means you don’t have to be active every single day to earn rewards, however your score is cumulative so frequent participation on Stacker News is a better strategy.
If you prefer to hide your username from the Million Sat Madness leaderboard, you can toggle your profile's visibility in your settings.

the top 64 are shown here but if you have "hide me from top stackers" toggled on in your profile settings, you'll appear as "stacker is in hiding" on the leaderboard
I'm not hidden and not in the table - that's why I'm asking if it's possible to see where I am and how much action I need to do to qualify...

As if SN wasn't already full of random low-quality posts just to get a few sats. This way you attract a lot of new over-excited community members that will start to share random stuff, or incentivize the usual suspects to keep posting, because it's almost granted that the prize will be won by a big zapper. Yes.
But the SN team does like to experiment with the rewards system from time to time. Usually changing how the rewards are cacluated.
I think this is the first time they have change the time period. (From day to month)

What's weird is we give away this many sats every month but because it's not a lump sum you all just think it's whatever.
Yeah, for the top 64 it's no different except they'll get everyone elses rewards, but for the rest, 65 and over you'll get fk all earnings. This is the kind of corporate crap I don't miss. Let the hunger games begin
Yeah, I'm not into these fiat style competitions either. Definitely reminds me of job bonus schemes that have all the workers competing with each other for that bonus pot at the end of the quarter/year and only a select few will get a share. Of course they train us as kids at school for this, starting with gold star sticker charts.
