Switching to a far more restrictive bank that disallows putting your name on your employer's payroll system, loss of freelancing and Airbnb support, and now a sudden cutoff of anyone utilizing Bitwage services within the U.S. not even a month after ditching Metropolitan.
And to think I was going to ditch Strike when they briefly regressed in feature functionally; thank God for a better Jack, I guess.
Title is clickbaity. US employer/clients are still 100% supported.

I'll state that there was no intent on my part to be maliciously deceptive or otherwise farm for interaction here; I was reacting to what I felt was a sudden and unannounced lock out in real time when I saw it.
This should have been communicated better or ahead of time, as I did read the email now sent out to users.
reply
wow, thanks for the PSA. Seems that US is really fucked up.

Was just about to make a Nostr post tagging you with this post linked, now I don't have to.
Unbelievably shitty of Bitwage to do after their announcement email surrounding the regressions made to their service after switching to their new banking partner, making it seem like the "freedom" country still had access.
reply
In EU is still OK, but I supposed it will happen the same soon. The only way is to be paid directly in BTC.
@bitwage can you give more explanations to this ?
reply
CEO of Bitwage here.
US employer/clients are still 100% supported.
Message in question means either that you have to send a quick ticket for some manual approvals we will get from our new banking partners or that you had an acc with an employer/client added prior Feb 2022, so it needs updating.
Post title is click baiting - there has been no rug pull.
We deal with bank accounts that our users use. Regulations change and in the process of these changes, there can be (temporary) changes or manual actions needed. Like the screen posted.
We are USA company that is fully regulated and on top of that we are FULLY non-custodial.
Worth repeating here again is that we did NOT drop US.

thank you for clarifying and feedback!

@DarthCoin, do you use Nostr as frequently as SN?
reply
Whenever people need me... But nostr is more for memes and fun. Not for serious discussions.
reply
Sad but true. I do hope Nostr long form thoughtful content becomes more of a thing. I'm doing my part.
reply
Ok my opinion, Nostr still needs its killer app on terms of usability and functionality because all the current client implementations are somehow boring...
reply
They are boring because they are copying old formats. It is important though which is why I keep using it.
Fyi, I've followed you there and a DMed you as well.

They support different coins but no xpubs to receive your salary. Weird.
Also never replied to my question if they even plan to support it. They only replied to my initial question if it's possible somehow since I couldn't believe a service like theirs wouldn't support xpubs. They only replied that they don't support xpubs but you can give them a list of addresses. It's been a month.

Should call up Dennis to fix this. It's probably an issue due to lack of lobbying. That's how democracy works.

Also that's how communism works

havent use bitwage myself, but wouldn't be easier if getting pay in Bitcoin and only exchange the fiat that you need with robosat or HODLHODL? so you don't need to deal with so many tools, less is more.
reply
They won't let decentralization take over the shaddy and centralized 🏦easily. Be prepared, they will try to form some collective approach to combat the revolution, but I don't see any hope for these overly centralized MFS and cheats who will tax us and and get paid. All of them, all working for government.
reply
As Darth said, the only solution forward is direct Bitcoin payment when you take a job... easier said than done, considering thr difficulty of finding even a basic job nowadays.
reply
Correct. I'm doing the same now. It doesn't matter now that you stay only one place. There are countries which are more decentralization Bitcoin friendly. We can shift there, but that's the easier choice, I like the harder one. I have always been a fighter so one fight more. They have applied more than 30% tax on crypto gains in my country. But who will pay the taxes? Only those who ever cash out in 💩🏦. If you directly start spending in BTC, there's no need to pay taxes, in no way they can know how much you have gained or lost.

Any info on this? searching for bitwage dropping USA support and can't find much.
reply
Posted this as I found out, nothing on their social pages nor was there emails sent detailing this.
Scummy as hell in regards to handling, to be honest.
