Hello Stackers!
It's Thursday and just like every week, we're throwing back.
So let's go! What do you have that takes you back?
I'm throwing myself back to 2005 with Alannis Morissette and Seal - Crazy

Alanis, awesome, long time did not hear :)
reply
Yeah she kinda was huge. And then just sorta retired and went off to live her life. More power to her, she's great.
reply
Her podcast explains. Family woman. Good person.
reply
I didn't know she had a podcast, I'll have to go check that out.
I totally get it. But from a selfish point of view I wished she'd stayed in the business so that I could hear more of her. She was great.
reply
For sure, me too. did have a podcast. Archived.
reply
Oh no :(
I'll just have to go back and listen to the jagged little pill album to get my Alanis fix.
reply
It's still on Spotify
reply
I got a couple hours driving to do today, perhaps I get to listen to what she has to say.
Most of my music is throwback music :D
Dave Matthews Band - Ants Marching (Live At Piedmont Park)
The concert was held at Atlanta’s Piedmont Park in front of over 80,000 people to raise money for the park.

Genesis - Land of Confusion

Great track and great video too. Spitting image was brilliant.

Very good, I like this version, they keep the feeling of the original and haven't gone too overboard on the heavy thrash side. Top video as well
reply
Disturbed of that era really went for the people Vs the oppressors. That whole album "ten thousand fists" is really themed around the masses standing strong together against the tyranny of their ruling class.

The official music video for Bruno Mars' "Just The Way You Are" from the album ‘Doo-Wops & Hooligans’.
reply
Excellent artist, all around
reply
That is a beautiful song. He deserved all the glory after this one.

Take That - Back for Good
Going all soppy today 😜🥰 From 1995!! 😱 I feel old 😆
reply
One of their best, if not the best. "Wash your back, wash your back, wash your back for good", classic line
reply
Haha yes brilliant
reply
I know of them because they did a cover of How Deep is Your Love - Bee Gees. I thought it was pretty good!
reply
oh I remember that! They got such a lot of flack for being a "boy band" but I think they're very good
reply
Totally unjustified wasn't it, pretty much all of them were great artists in their own rights. The whole "boy band only" stuff they got was such a lazy narrative.
reply
I remember reading about that when I was learning about them. If I remember right, they wrote at least some their own songs whereas most of the boy bands don't.
reply
Correct, Gary wrote pretty much all of the Take That music from the very beginning, he's very talented as well as being able to play the piano. The band was built around him. Unlike other manufactured boy bands who were put together and had less creative control, although to be fair to One Direction and Boyzone they did have input in to their songs, but nowhere near the level of Gary. You often find that once the band is up and running and they become bigger then you start to see in later albums they assert more control of the songwriting, as that's where the mega bucks are.
reply
I can't remember if I've had this conversation somewhere else but allegedly Simon cowell didn't want to sign them and said "lose the fat one and you've got a chance" you mean the guy who was by a country mile the most talented in the whole band🤣 great job Simon. Won't live that one down.
reply
Beautiful song. We going all teary eyed today? Toks came at us with a soppy track aswell.
reply
Here's a double throwback. A performance that's nearly twenty years old of Richard Thompson covering the 1967 Easybeats classic "Friday On My Mind." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7ijCwNb68M
reply
You like this guy eh? It sounds really good in this live recording aswell.
reply
Heh. Yeah, it may be obvious that he's one of my faves.
reply
Throwing way back. Was listening to classical music on spotify with my daughter yesterday while she was doing her phonics work book. Came across this tune by Schubert and really liked it.
reply
Teach em young to appreciate the complexity of the classical. That is throwing way way back 🤣
reply
Did you listen to the song @manlikekweks posted?
I want him to repost it giving @joemartinmusic 50% of the sats and then I zap the crap out of it and maybe you can pin it.
reply
So that's fantastic. Like really cool. I've been enjoying a lot of the stuff Kweks has been posting on collaborations with Richard. And the addition of Joe Martin only shows going from strength to strength.
But I don't think I can pin it. I wouldn't feel good about giving the pin space away for free to someone, since I set a precedent renting that space out to EddieOz for his release of Anarchy Dreams.
I spoke with Kweks recently about offering the pin space and they seemed interested, however havn't gotten back to me with anything as of yet.
I do also think it should be reposted and split 50/50 but perhaps they have individually come to an arrangement to only use one account for all three of them and split 3 ways. I wouldn't want to interfere with any existing arrangement they may have. So unless Kweks does that themselves, I wouldn't feel good about doing it myself.
reply
I haven't gotten to it yet, I'm still catching up from all the activity I missed during the day.
reply
Interesting, I've never heard that version of Crazy by Alanis
reply
Yeah I really liked it. Her and Seal together is just great.

https://youtu.be/cfLIlP-GAmg?si=vmqTT8SJgDXslVOO I still remember when this popped up on one of the many CD compilations my brother brought home from his job at Virgin Megastore. I couldn't get enough of it.

That's 🔥🔥🔥 that's a lot of fun. Great submission, thanks for sharing that one. 👊
